Comment:

First time taking an art class. He sets up whatever you're drawing and just lets you go at it. Walks around and gives pointers. Helpful at explaining how to approach things if you have no idea what you're doing. Worked with pencil, bamboo pen/ink, and charcoal. Fun class altogether

The teacher only cares about his favorite students. He is like many other teachers at SJSU. He spends a lot of time in his office during the class. If you have a question during the class you can walk down the hall and knock on his office door. He will answer your question if he's not busy on the phone.

Rarely in the classroom during class time, hard to find& leaves students confused on what to do especially in the beginning of the semester. He pays attention to 1 student for too long& leaves even when others need help. At least I got the hang of printing eventually. He gives good feedback during critiques tho.

I'm a beginner at painting and I expected to learn a lot from this professor. I found myself reading books, youtube, and experimenting. I sort of benefited from those but I want to learn from someone with experience. Patrick tends to ignore his least favorite students. He is barely there and he never demos. Waste of money for the most part. Ignore.

Patrick is very easy going. However, his class is a lot of work, and he is pretty ambiguous with the instructions of his assignments. But he is always willing to help you, and will give meaning critiques. He doesn't care if you are in class or not, but if you are leaving too early he may stop you. GET ON HIS GOOD SIDE and this class will be easy!

Was rarely in class, bitter towards students and would not compromise with me when I had a problem. He taught only the basics of a difficult process and expected the students to somehow know what to do after. Made fun of people for asking questions, but was rarely available to answer them himself. Stubborn but knowledgeable. Avoid.

If you demonstrate interest by your effort and initiative, this professor has an impressive amount of knowledge to offer. He is a kind and gentle coach and I consider myself lucky to have studied with him. It is also true that he will not put energy into disinterested students.

Patrick is a good teacher with tremendous knowledge. He lectures on basics only but will spend a lot of time and bring supplemental materials if you ask & act interested. This is my 3rd class w/him & I always learn a lot. He's not helpful if you don't come to class. A lot of people who are bored aren't there except on critique days.

Patric is a very genial person, always great if you know what question you need to ask. He does not require that you attend every class, because that would make it impossible to work, there are only 5 presses total for 30 kids. The class is very big on working alone, attending crits, and ALWAYS TAKING NOTES. If you don't take notes, you'll forget.

well he makes it clear that he doesnt want to teach the class. its not that he is mean, he just acts like he doesnt care about the projects that much. he will only help you if you wave him down and even then he is unclear. he doesnt give good instructions on what he wants but then he doesnt really grade that hard. he doesnt care if you late or if you leave early. it is a pretty easy class though.

This teacher seems to have no interest at all in teaching this class. Assignments were not only boring, they were extremely tedious (many involved cutting out a ton of little construction paper shapes). The upside is that this teacher is hardly ever in the classroom during class time.

He's a great teacher with a lot of substantive criticism. Took a boring beginning class and made it into a real art class. I feel very lucky to have studied with him.
