I loved Pat's classes and even though his tests are abysmally hard, the lectures were well worth it. I enjoyed both sections he taught, and even got to work with him as a TA one semester. A remarkable teacher; a rare one who makes you think.

Comment:

Dr. Trimble is a hilarious, engaging, irreverent instructor who works a large 200+ student large lecture hall like a violin. This is not a 'record what I say' course. It's a 'you need to READ THE BOOK, listen to lectures, and actually think" course. In short, it's hard but highly rewarding and underrated.

People need to get over it. Yeah, it's a gen ed and yeah it is difficult. Sometimes, college classes aren't easy. He keeps class interesting and fun to go too and is an entertaining guy especially that time he farted in class and we all cracked up. Really, he's a great guy, he wants you to get something out of class.

Tests are hard, yes. Even taking thorough notes didn't help. You have to understand concepts for the tests. Real nice guy though, REALLY knows his stuff. Work hard, and he will reward you in the end.

First of all, please realize this class will not be an easy A. He is very interesting and I loved the examples we watched in class. But exams are hard, very hard, but he does curve them a lot.

SUPER HARD TESTS. The lectures were really interesting and entertaining, but his exams are just ridiculously difficult. I did learn a lot, even though my grade sucked. Attendance is mandatory, but you will want to go to class since hes so funny lol

Funny, interesting guy but has to put HUGE curves on exams b/c avg. grades are in C-range; material is never phrased the way he teaches it, no matter how good notes you take. You can slip by w/ a B or C & prob w/out the textbook (which he wrote). Interesting class, definitely makes you think but exams really are AWFUL. NOT a good, easy A gen-ed!

Awful. Just awful. His exams are entirely subjective and riddled with trick questions, and no matter how hard I studied, I just couldn't get ahead. Talking to him in office hours was worthless. Only thing that saved me was that I already had a good understanding before the course of the material on the final.

Do not take it if you are trying to get an easy A (like I was lol). You basically get screwed over every exam and even if you go to the numerous review sessions and meet up with him, you most likely will not do great in the class since the test q's are tricky and based on his opinions. plus theres no book or ppt. but he is a great prof!

Trimble was an excellent professor. It is easy to tell that he is extremely interested in the topic he teaches. His lectures were interesting enough to get me out of bed for his 8 am class. However, his class is not an easy A Gen Ed. Attendance is taken every day and the tests require a lot of studying. Attend the review sessions!

You people are ridiculous! His class is incredibly engaging, and you'll learn SO much. Although it is necessary to go to class and pay attention to get a good grade, you'll find yourself wanting to go anyway... Attend/Participate and you won't find yourself in any trouble. While it is a harder GenEd for most, I got an A.

I disagree with the negative ratings. Trimble was extremely fair and his exams were not that hard if you paid attention to his lectures. All of the exams are curved so as long as you paid attention, you're basically destined to get at least a B.

If you were thinking for one second that maybe Trimble's difficulty rating wasn't deserved, then stop. Turn around. Don't take his class. His tests are set up so that every question is a trick question, and you have to know precisely what answer HE wants, not just the "right" answer. If you're looking for a simple gen ed, avoid his class.
