I've never had Doutrich for an intro course, his TR upper level history courses are so easy. It is always lecture Tuesday/review on the reading Thursday (but you don't have to read to get by). He does 4 essay exams a semester plus another essay or two about specific things and that's all you get graded on. If you spend time on those, you'll pass.

Professor Doutrich tells a story and loves American Civ. His lectures can sometimes be long but he tries to integrate students into the discussion sometimes. I would recommend him because it is not a hard class. TAKE GOOD NOTES! His tests seem straight forward but he requires quite a bit of material on them. Overall, he is a good professor.

i personally like Dr. Doutrich. I took him for both American Civ 1 & 2. His lectures may seem boring, but what he is trying to do is tell a story. He tries to bring his students into that time period to learn about said topic. The discussions he has every Friday are not very difficult. If you wish to take a history class, take Dr. Doutrich.

Comment:
Dr. Doutrich is definitely a polarizing professor. Some love him, some hate him. But he decides how he likes you based on how you respond to his articles every Friday by doing class discussions. He'll definitely let it be known if he likes you, even though he may pick on you. His tests are easy as long as you take the notes.

He fumbles throughout the lecture and is very rude. Class is mandatory, yet his tests are irrelevant to anything that comes out of his mouth. I absolutely despise history because of this class. Avoid taking him at all costs because his grading is ridiculous. If I could go back, I would not take him again. Do yourself a favor, choose someone else.

Dr. Doutrich is very good professor. I have taken him for both American Civ I & II. 15 multiple choice quizzes and an article review every week is not back breaking work. For his exams, he gives a study guide a week in advance giving you time to prepare. Just make sure you take good, adequate notes and you will do fine.

The class consists of 15 multiple choice questions each week plus an online reading that you have to summarize. There is only 3 exams, and he gives the exam questions out a week in advance. Go to class!! All the exam answers are in the lectures.

He is a tough grader but there is no reason to get below a 70 because if you do, he lets you do a paper or something to raise the exam grade to a 70. He may be strict, but I had an issue at the beginning of the semester with my assignments AND the computer I got, and he let me go on a few grades. DON'T BE LATE! But overall, he's pretty cool.

If you don't believe in his political ideology he will take it out on your grade. Ask too many questions, it's taken out on your grade. Never take for senior seminar

Assignments due every Friday tests usually consists of 2 essays and he gives you options and time to prepare. No mandatory attendance but you can get participation points. The only assignments are article reviews and MC questions online. Recommend

Dr. Doutrich is a challenging professor who is obviously passionate about his field. His courses are not easy, but they are worthwhile. If you don't want to work hard, he will know it, and you shouldn't take his class.

Where are all of these harsh comments coming from? Dr. Doutrich is enthusiastic, sincere, and goes out of his way to help students understand course material. I wish more of my professors were as passionate and interested in the material they teach as Dr. Doutrich is. I highly recommend taking him.

He was not the prof. that I signed up for, but somehow I got him anyway. Lectures seemed interesting at first, because he gets overly excited, but exams are really hard. He gives 6 essays before the exam, and gives you three on the day of the exam, of which you must do two. He grades really hard.

I don't know the prior experiences people had with Dr. Doutrich but I absolutely love him as a prof. He gives a light workload, but you have to read and participate in class. If you go to him for help on papers he will help a lot. He is just vague on grading.

Boring, all he does is lecture. He assigned online quizzes, but if you just do them during class they are fairly simple. Not a difficult class at all, just make sure you have the book. Took it during the summer, and there were no tests, just take home essays.
