Comment:

Laurendeau's method of teaching is definitely unique and different from what you may be used to from other professors. The key to understand and profit from his class is to be truly interested in linguistics for a lot of the work is left up to your creativity and innovative side. Don't be afraid to ask questions and enjoy.

Take linguistics with Laurendeau and you will rather discover that he marks fairly and makes you work for real on a real linguistic analysis. Also: to plagiarize at exams will lead you nowhere, he has his system against that...

Take Linguistics with him and you'll notice a few things. You'll get 74,75 or 76 on your tests (ask a person sitting next to you what they got- and you'll get the same or similar number that is on your paper). In the end, he'll make you do a rediculously hard assignment and give you a D or a C with no explenation whatsoever why and lower your B mar

One of the most interesting courses I ever took. Very knowledgeable teacher. The work is challenging but of great benefit to a student at the Masters level. I was sad the class was over and I would select one of this teacher's courses if I could.

he doesn't really cater to your ego, which is good, and seems to knows a lot about language and linguistics but is very often unclear on what he wants, how he wants it etc... I received next to nothing in regards to knowledge because he doesn't give you comments on your assignments and exams.

I took 2100 with Laurendeau and it convinced me to take 3130 with Laurendeau and I was very satisfied in both cases. His feedback is very detailed and classes are highly informative. He is very generous and patient. I strongly recommend that instructor.

He's an ok guy, but he should know that not everybody likes linguistics nor understands that field of study as easily as everybody elese, and since 2100 Intro to Linguistics is a required course, I finished that class more confused as ever! I have all my exams with me still and people are right when they say that he doesn't read your exams no feedb

I cannot disagree more firmly with the last four evaluations. They express falsehoods I will not dignify with a response. No other professor has demonstarted, and demonstrated consistently, more sincere and genuine interest in and devotion to his students. No other professor has so fully modelled and encouraged freedom of thought. Pure excellence.

I will agree that he definately loves what he is teaching and he is a nice person but I could not agree more with the comment about his confusing teaching style. No one in the class ever really knew what he wanted for assignments, his explanations made no sense and his marking was just a number on the page, no explanation.

I was interested at first but I know that I am not alone when I say that he is all over the place. There are no lecture notes and he barely writes on the board. His lectures are confusing and when you ask him a question about an assignment he never gives you a straight answer. Never shows you or even tells you what you did wrong on your work.

This is the BEST french prof that I have ever had! He is passionate about the topic and he has so much fun with us in the classroom. He is very encouraging and supportive. He is extremely entusiastic and hilarious. I would take all of my classes with him.
