Comment:

This class was more discussion based than lecture based. The first few weeks we had to analyze some research papers. Then we had to contribute to research and each week, we would present to the class what we have found. Pretty chill class, and professor Wang was lenient on late work and mandatory attendance; although she can be a bit disorganized.

Comment:

Multiple pop quizzes that were fairly easy as long as you paid attention in class. Tests were about twice as hard as the quizzes. Strictly graded homeworks and are done in randomly assigned groups. Although I'm sure it helps, I personally did not read the book and did fine. It's about as difficult as you'd expect an algorithms class to be.

Her class just has a mid term and a final so if you mess up either, you're in deep trouble. She certainly knows her stuff but i feel like she doesn't teach it well to students. I'd rather take this with some prof who has home-works, quizzes etc so that my grade doesn't get affected. If you're not super smart, i'd say avoid her class!

Comment:

Dr. Wang showed a very sharp wit and approached the problems in different, stimulating, ways. Sometimes different from the textbook, which was a huge advantage. Exams tested your understanding of the material and had a flavor of challenge. Grading was so fair with clear, helpful, feedback! Would definitely recommend.

If you do not have any other option, then only take class with this professor. She teaches from the book and you are left with no option but to rely on her whimsical grading. If you are lucky , you might get A and for the same answers you might get 'F'. I would have appreciated if she was little considerate.

Comment:

Dr. Wang is a brilliant professor with a warm personality. Requirements for programming assignments are comprehensive and unambiguous. The midterm was take home (always a plus), and the final was a programming project in lieu of a paper test. Being a pioneer in the field of parallel computation, she is one of the reasons why GMU is a great school.

Very good professor. Goes through each step of algorithms which is a very simple and very effective way of teaching algorithms. Easy going and other personality traits already mentioned are true. Extremely helpful. The course is supposed to be tough but if you work hard enough it is possible to get a good grade. Very fair at grading.

Professor Wang is very easy going, laid-back and even a little funny when she wants to be. The class workload is relatively light (2 exams and maybe 8 or so homeworks). I would take her again without hesitation.

Somewhat boring. She's more comfortable in smaller classes. Fair grader, and easy straightforward tests. Projects in CS 635 can be a bit convoluted and overwhelming. Generally about as fun as graduate school can be expected to be.

I was really scared before taking class. everyone i knew told me how difficult this class was. But this prof has made the class interesting, though not very easy. she goes through the examples and that makes u understand better. Also she is a very fair grader. allows cheat sheets.
