If you are not good at Spanish, DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. The tests are literally impossible and she gives no sympathy at all. After the first test, I asked what her class average was last semester overall & she said a D. Instead of giving attendance points she does participation & if u raise ur hand & she deosnt call on u then u get a 0 that day.

I know the curriculum controls what most professors have to teach, however Ms. McNeil is not the best professor at all. Im aware this is college and not everything is handed to you but this professor does not teach/explain anything at all. She expects us to learn the concepts after briefly going over everything. Would NOT take again.

Grading scale, amount of homework, attendance policy, tests, etc. are all mandated by the department, not professor. So yes, lots of homework, challenging tests, and importance on attendance and participation, but not her fault. She is herself very friendly, loves chatting with students, and is happy to answer questions or offer help.

Peggy is an ok teacher. She tries to establish connections with the students, but also is very culturally ignorant and just says stuff thats not very sensitive to other ethnicities, cultures, etc. She also talks a lot about her dead husband? Anyway you can take a better teacher.

Mcneil was definitely a good spanish teacher. If you're nervous about taking a language, take her. She speaks in english most of the time and is very friendly. The class is set up by the spanish department, so not her, but it is still pretty easy as long as you keep up on studying. Also, study verbs!

She's a nice lady and tried tried to have conversations with us, but class is boring. You will need points from class participation and homework! Take notes of the vocabulary from the quests online because the quizzes are difficult!

She is a really good profesora. She makes you work for your grade but taking this class is very worth it. She is a tough grader, but she gives you points in every way possible. I hated this class and ended up loving it afterwards. 10/10 recommend

She is really nice in class, but tests are difficult. She takes off half or sometimes full credit for just forgetting an accent. Go to class, but almost impossible to get an A. There's definitely easier teachers.

wasn't looking for an easy prof, just someone I could truly learn from. speaks mostly in english, which makes it a little harder to learn spanish. Doesn't teach as much as doing textbook activities & videos. very nice & goofy, but I don't feel like I really learned from this class. study guides not helpful. made me change from spanish major after.

She explains the material in English so you understand. Then you practice it in Spanish. The material really isn't that hard if you study. You have to go to class, do your homework, and participate if you want to pass. I would suggest taking her because she's nice and she wants you to pass. Tests are difficult but that's the department's fault.

She is OK, but there are better Spanish teachers. If you want to learn about Spanish in general (culture and linguistics) take the class with someone with more experience. She has no idea about many things.

Great teacher, but not a very forgiving grader. Like others have said, there are definitely easier Spanish teachers out there, but if you want to REALLY learn Spanish, then take her!

this class just requires a lot of workstudying in general which is departmental. McNeil is a little tough when it comes to grading speaking tests and cares about accents...I like her alright, but I've heard there are easier Spanish teachers at LSU

1152 is an advanced elementary course that's forced on everyone who "learned" Spanish in High School; it covers alot of ground quickly too quickly. And Peggy doesn't make that any easier for the kids that don't know the days of the week. She is also an extremely hard grader, so don't expect to do well if you don't already know decent Spanish.

I. LOVED. PEGGY. She's so goofy and is like a second mother. She understands that learning a foreign language is tough on native English-speakers, so she explains things thoroughly and is definitely a lenient grader. The only thing I disliked about this course was that tests and quizzes were departmental.

She's super sweet but on the first day she spoke fluent spanish. Many people were very flustered. She doesn't slow down, she expects you to know it very well. We go through about 4 sections in 1 day. She teaches it like it was on 4000 level. If you are extremely good at spanish then this is the class for you.
