Most of the notes you have to take are from him speaking, so if you miss class you're in trouble. But he has a textbook he recommends, so some gaps can be filled in with that. He genuinely wants you to succeed and is overall a nice guy. Note that if you do not study outside of class and don't make an effort your screwed. Good content, though.

I've taken two of his classes now, GEOG 100 and ENVR 107, and they were both my favourite classes in the term. His lectures are extremely interesting, engages the class and makes you think. He comes off a little condescending, but he is happy to help and if you're a hard worker he recognizes that. Probably my favourite prof at Camosun.

Much more information in slides compared to real lectures. You don't know what to study for the tests. Certainly agree with the slides and that they should be posted for students who are there to make the best of their tuition.

Chris Ayles is a great teacher but he should put the notes online so as not to punish the people who want to learn. As college students we pay to be taught. It would be great if lectures were posted because it is very difficult to retain all the information he gives you in lecture.

Comment:
His labs are easy and feel arbitrary content-wise. There is no text and his tests are composed of random things that were 1 question in the lab that may or may not have seemed important. Long lectures that don't cover much content. The way he talks sounds condescending but I don't think that's intentional. Didn't learn much. But he's an ok dude.

The course was interesting. However Chris is a very tough marker. He will be there to answer your questions when needed but never gives you a direct answer. Class attendance is mandatory. Overall, interesting course but must work extremely hard to get decent grades.

Comment:
The entire course was made out to be much harder than it should be. He is a nice guy and all, but he can be very abrasive and is quite rude if you are late for class. Don't expect any help preparing for the test because there won't be any (no study guides or outlines) and don't bother asking any questions. It won't help.

My learning experience in this man's class was very poor. I found Chris to be rude and condescending, and for some reason he thinks there's no problem in how he speaks to people. I would try and look to take his classes with another instructor, you will probably end up less frustrated than I have been all term.

He is a extremely unfair marker and inconsistent. not helpful at all. I would not recommend him as a professor. though the course itself could have been cool with a different instructor.

Comment:
He speaks as he writes on the board, leaving no time to listen to him while furiously taking notes. If you have time you think of a question, he's already moved on. His equations were sometimes overcomplicated. His grading was unnecessarily stringent and unfairly weighted. Lectures weren't helpful, yet you cannot rely solely on the text.

Chris' class was interesting and I learned a ton. I found that his marking was really inconsistent, sometimes giving people with the same answers different marks. Overall I found that the class good, but Chris himself was not that approachable.

Chris was a good instructor and the class was really interesting. His marking seemed a bit inconsistent, but was fair for the most part. I would take another class with Chris.

Oh my god those labs were evil, completely and utterly evil.. they're also half of the mark in that class. Chris is a great teacher but he really needs to ease up on those labs, or just make them worth less.

A tough marker, and very particular about your delivery, but one of the most interested, thorough, helpful, and enthusiastic profs about the subject I have ever had the pleasure to interact with. Honest about what he does and doesn't know, and really engaging-makes you think. I'm enrolled!

I liked Chris's class. Lots of labs, but if you study and do the work, its an easy A. Actually, the whole geog dept rocks.
