He took over half way through the course, his lectures are irrelevant to the quizzes and final exam. 95% of his lecture slides are iclicker questions about INTERPRETING GRAPHS! WHICH IS NOT HELPFUL AT ALL!!! I was frustrated because he seems like a nice guy, but taking this class is a waste of your time even if you enjoy ecology as much as I do.

This dude thinks Plant ecology is the only class on your schedule. Not only is he a tough grader, but his guidelines for pretty much every assignment are very ambiguous. The labs often run an hour over their scheduled end, and are strenuous to say the least. His exams are all open ended, and there is no study guide.

I love Peter so much. There is an optional lab that goes to the White Mountains and I went with him. He is kind of ripped, his orgo teacher in college was the man who discovered the Calvin Cycle, and he is cute/funny. Listen in lecture and you won't have a hard time in the class. Read the book to get an A. I am in love with this man class.

He took over for my ecology class half way through and is a terrible professor. his tests are way too hard seeing as I got in the 60 percentile on my last test with a 60. his lectures are not helpful and doesn't really explain anything. He actually used us to see what movie he should show in another class by asking us which one was better, suks.

Seriously? The guy seemed respectable at first... but his practice exam questions were beyond believable, the actual exam questions were even worse, and his grading was complete garbage. I had a solid B from the first half of the semester (studied hard but didn't attend class) but now I'll be lucky to finish the second half with a C. DO NOT TAKE.

This guy is one of the worst professors I've had so far at this school. Took over my ecology class halfway through the semester (who does that?). His grading is absolutely horrible and it's impossible to do well no matter how hard you work. Doesn't care to take the time to help you understand an answer to something. Don't take him, save your GPA.

People are so rude. Alpert was my favorite professor at UMass by far. He is brilliant, and a very memorable instructor. It's not an easy course, and includes field sampling and a lot of data work, i.e. things you will need to do if you want to be a biologist or ecologist. I only regret not spending more time around him.

Peter loves what he does. A lot of his focus is on the material, but also within a larger academic context (learning about plantsecology, but also being able to write and present research in the field). He is helpful, funny, gives reasonable expectations, and is responsive to students. Be prepared for some data work though, its not that bad.

I took this class four years ago..DO NOT take a class with him. He's just mean and isn't there to help you learn. Not a good prof..maybe he should turn to another profession.

a very decieving course description. more like a data analysis class than an ecology class. notes are ambiguous. lots of work. take another class.

Seems like a nice guy, the class, however, is one of the hardest ones I've had so far - grading that is (though I attribute this to the TA). He's a but unclear at times, and the lab ran 1 1/2 hours over schedule 4 times! Even though he's a nice guy, I wouldn't recommend the class.
