Comment:
Ives is a nice guy, a lot of reading involved in his courses (Ive taken two taught by him). But if you do the readings you should be able to pass his course. He does love participation because its hard to lecture on certain topics without feedback, but it is a high level of political thought so only a few usually participate

Ives is a great guy but I found his intro poli sci class to be a bit dry - often felt like I left lectures having learnt virtually nothing (relied on textbook more). He marks fairly however, and encourages discussion in class. I liked him as a person, but as a prof, I kinda wish I had another professor. Perhaps another topic w/ him would be better.

He's a really great guy, such a genuine person and also extremely understanding. Overall great person. When it comes to his classes.... They are dry and boring. I felt bad because he is such a nice guy but his class... Let's just say that I would often skip it.

'Expect to read', what else would one expect in this field? Strange that a student could complain that a professor interrupts her/his University experience with a book isn't it? He's a nice guy but his lectures could be a little bit all over the place. Expect to have a paper with the expression: "this could've been a great paper but.." Hate that.

Very clear professor. For a non politics major he made it interesting. His assignments are fair and his office is an open door to have discussions with him. Encourages public speaking and even if you are nervous he really helps you out. Definitely recommend for first year student

Fantastic prof! I'm taking another class with him this semester because he is absolutely wonderful. Very very very engaging class, sometimes hard to keep notes and heavy readings but absolutely worth it. Relates theory to practical situations and is extremely helpful to students with essays or test prep. Very fair marker and great guy.

great prof- very engaging, respectful, and understanding. Good sense of humour, and seems to really enjoy class discussion. This class is pretty tough though, readings seem especially dense for an introduction to postmodern theory. Fair marker, fair workload. Recommended.

I really enjoyed this class. Always encouraged class discussions. Has a good sense of humor as well. He sometimes over-explains some of the most trivial things, but I did not mind. He gives questions that will be on the exam beforehand. Offers great feedback with essays and what not.

Peter Ives can be rather disorganized at times, and the links between lectures and the(excessive)readings are often a little hazy. But all in all he is a great guy who cares a lot about his students and makes difficult material acessible.
