He know's a lot about theatre + is very passionate! He can be intimidating + his lectures always run the full time (he never lets you leave early) the labs are interesting and so are lectures. You will definitely learn something new. A good intro course to see where your heart lies in the theatre world. A lot of people drop theatre after this class

Peter is an incredible educator & is extremely passionate in his craft. At times arrogant & intimidating, he is also just as much a caring & understanding individual. He is hard on people only with the best intention: because he believes you can succeed & prosper if you try hard enough. Be 10 minutes early to his (amazing & enthusiastic) lectures.

Peter is an amazing professor and inspiring man. Very knowledgeable. People say he's pompous, but if you spend five seconds talking to the man you realize he just expects greatness from you, because he believes you're capable of it. Got me my first internship, is taking some students around Europe for a theatre tour. You'll work, but sooo worth it!

He is R a c i s t and H o m o p h o b i c, hides that under calling himself sarcastic. Egotistical, and completely irrelevant to what is happening in the world.

So knowledgable, incredibly interesting and cares about the department and subject more then any other professor. Wants you to succeed not only in class but in your life. Would take a class just because he taught it

One of my fav profs. He knows his stuff/is approachable. Don't be afraid of him! He can be sarcastic/rude at times to people (never to me). He will call you out if you fall asleep in class. He was not a difficult grader at all. As long as you follow his exact instructions you will do well in class. He's very engaging/there's a lot to learn from him

Passable prof. Infuriating human being. Endless name-dropping, location-dropping, irrelevant self-serving anecdotes, etc. Charisma has its limits. I actually quite like his curriculum, but I wish I could have heard it through someone other than this pompous, long-winded mouthpiece. He kinda ruined the department for me.

Peter knows his stuff. He taught me a lot of life skills in first year, however he has a bad tendency to attack actors, and he passes this on to the students which I is not okay.

He is a really humourous guy. He knows how to survive in the theatre world. Never boring in lecture. Marking seems harsh, but as long as you ask, he will let you know what he wants. Take initiative if you want help.

He can be funny and quirky sometimes but his methods of marking and teaching are way too strict. For a man who claims to be progressive he sure doesn't act like it. He really made my first year a nightmare.

Peter McKinnon is a wonderful teacher. Granted, sometimes his marking is harsh, but I simply made an appointment to speak to him about my mark and he clarified all, as he will do with everything if you simply ASK. The people who are bashing him should "take their ball and go home".

He's past his prime, but he still wants to be there for students when they need him. I think he plays an important role at York, but soon his services will no longer be needed, as the theatre world has been evolving and, well, he hasn't.

Although Peter is a witty and engaging lecturer his astounding confidence both in himself and in his body of knowledge can be frustrating to students who grew up in circumstances drastically different from his own.

honestly, the most influential and inspirational mentor of my entire post-secondary career. As cliche as it might sound, I learned as many life lessons as I did theatre production skills, and even now, as a professional creative director in broadcast design and advertising, his teaching continues to enrich my work and life.
