His lectures are fine, however is labs are atrocious. He wont teach you how to do anything in the labs and expects you to figure it all out by yourself. If you ask him for help he will go on a huge rant about how students need to figure stuff out for themselves. He forces his students to unnecessarily struggle.

If you don't have to take course with, run away! He doesn't care about students problems. He just teaches and leaves!

Peter is a great lecturer, his classes are always interesting and he has a dry sense of humour. That being said, he takes ages to mark things, and gives no feedback. It also seems like he deliberately leaves out important information to "challenge" students. He could improve by caring about his students and their success.

Demanding to the point of being pedantic, yet frustratingly vague about expectations. He has created an environment where i feel uncomfortable asking questions either in lecture or lab. Can sometimes convey material clearly, but more often than not he just goes through the motions. After taking his class, I no longer enjoy learning.

He's a bit of a character. His courses can be pretty seat-of-the-pants and his personality can seem intimidating to new students. Don't sweat it. Work hard and ask questions, and eventually you'll learn a ton about a broad and difficult topic. V friendly once you get to know him. He's taking a sabbatical so may become more approachable in future.

Comment:
Peter's classes have a steep learning curve. People that just rely on learning theory in other classes will have real trouble as Peter deals with the low level details of the architectures. If you try hard you will learn a lot and get help. Be prepared for the assignments to quickly get more difficult towards the end of the semester.

Doesn't mark until end of term.He seems to mark earlier stuff based on how well you did in the entire course rather than that particular assignment-appearing very biased and unfair.Seems to care&stress about students, yet still unapproachable. Often doesn't have time for you,but has lots of time for other profs.Need a shrink to figure this guy out.

Very good teacher. Explains things very well. Very VERY lazy. Haven't seen marks from projects almost 2 months old. Makes the course slightly more difficult if you are ever unsure of how your work should be, since until you see them lump mark at the end, you will not know how well you are doing.

So the man is a complete scatterbrain, but he is helpful! His lectures may cause your brain to self destruct; however, in labs he is quite helpfu. In one lab for an example he gave me a privite lesson on a confusing topic and everything clicked and now I am in a computer science craze.. I love it!

Possibly the most disorganised prof I've ever seen, but very helpful if he knows you've been trying hard. Did well, but have no idea how, seeing as I thought I'd tanked the exams. There was discontinuity between class, labs and exams - none seemed relevant to any of the others. That said, he made the subject interesting.

Peter is a good teacher, his lectures are informative and he definitely knows what he is doing. He is a bit absent-minded, but his handouts and coding samples are great. However, he is lazy with marking and hits you with tons of work at the end. :(

Peter was very helpful in the last week of class. He made a great effort to help the people who were trying so hard at the end. I did't think peter was like that after 261 but I have a new respect for him; he really does care. Final wasn't too bad.

Ummm... Peter Walsh does not teach 485B; Michael Horie teaches 485B. Peter's never done Embedded systems before (485A), he's learning as we do. He is very helpful as an instructor and knows where to point you to learn what he doesn't know himself.
