This is my second course with Professor Chassler. He's the nicest man at UMB. He's very passionate about History/American Studies. You always need to bring the required texts with you to class, seen as that's what the lectures are based off of. He is a fair grader, who gives good feedback. If you show up and do your work you'll do just fine.

Phil is by far the greatest person that I have met in academia and education. If you are sincere and work hard, he will work with you. Over the last couple of years, he advocated for me when no one else would. . He seriously was the reason why I was able to get graduate and get into grad school. Participate, show up, and do the work and you're good

Prof Chassler is a really cool old guy that talks with a low voice. His handwriting isn't the best so it will take you a little while to learn how to read it. You "need" three books but 60% of the grade is based on a family history project. If people don't read, the class becomes ten times more boring.

Prof Chassler is a great teacher. He is passionate about teaching. Class is primarily on the readings so make sure to just read the book and answer a few questions in class. The main paper in the class is very easy if you do it on time, you cannot pass the class without doing the paper. He is easy going and overall a good guy.

This guy is so nice and he genuinely cares about his students. His lectures can get boring, however that doesn't mean he isn't passionate about the material. Make sure you bring your textbooks to each class. This course has no tests which is awesome. He does give decent feedback on assignments too.

He is a very nice and caring man but his lectures are super boring. Also a tough grader. Tough to take notes on in class because handwriting is borderline unreadable. He is however willing to work with you so its important to communicate if youre having a tough time.

Prof. Chassler gives good feedback on essays. His lectures aren't the most exciting I've had at Umass, but that's largely because no one in my class did the readings beforehand. He clearly knows his stuff.

Prof. Chassler is a sweet guy however the class was not interesting to me all that much. Lots of reading and three papers spread throughout the semester. Overall not too bad, but kind of boring. Good thing: everything you need to know is usually in the discussions. Fair grader.

Professor Chassler is an amazing professor. There are 2 papers during semester, which were super easy. You can re-advise the paper as long as it is re-advised before the due date. He will help you with any of the readings and papers. As long as you do the work and show up for class you will pass. If you struggle let him know and he will help you.

DO NOT TAKE. This professor is a nice guy but he is BORING. Signed up for a "Living in the Eighties Class", to hear two hour non-stop lectures about Ronald Reagan. Curriculum: Assigns tons of reading, then talks about the reading the WHOLE period. Then assigns 6-8 page essays about the reading. He is also a very harsh grader.

He nice guy but after busting my butt to to at least get a B in his class, it seemed that he did not feel the same. I worked long hours to do well on the paper only to fave disappointment. If you don't mind long boring lectures and readings then you should be fine, but hound this guy for constant feed back if your unsure about your papers.

Pay no attention to the negative comments which are coming from lazy undergrads. A lot of reading? Yes, but welcome to college. Two short papers between 4-5 pages and one final paper between 6-8 pages. In class writing (few paragraphs) and quizzes make up for the extra credit. Professor Chassler is awesome and always helps out students. Got an A.

Not sure why all the positive feedback. Chassler is a very tough grader. No extra credit. Enormous amount of reading each week. 3 6-8pg papers and one 8-10. Extremely boring. Very tough class. Avoid.

He is so nice, always smiles but he can be boring when it comes to class discussion. His 15-20 page project might seem crazy but it's actually easy. If u don't do dis paper, u won't pass the class. he's not a tough grader so just take him

I love this guy. He's not an easy A but he is so helpful! He really made me interested in what were learning about & made sure we understood every aspect & perspective of the 80's.The only critique I have of his class is that he's very old fashion. He hardly uses any technology so if you like power points, you can forget about it!

Awesome teacher for a seminar class. He assigns a good amount of homework/reading each week, but was a fair teacher and was always very clear about what he wanted from the class. There is a group projects presentation, but not a big deal at all. He's a nice guy and I would recommend him if you're willing to put in a little extra work!
