Comment:
Easy to get distracted in class. Tends to ramble often and doesn't specify key concepts. Also does not use D2L for notes so attendance is mandatory. A bit of a tough marker; you have to be clear and concise in your evaluations. Folk2300 graded by few things.

Comment:
I found his lectures extremely long and boring, he talks more about linguistics than folklore, and is very nit-picky with his grading. Also attendance is mandatory, so do 3 50 min classes rather then 2 1 hour and 15 minute classes. If not about 40 minutes in you'll stop paying attention. To best sum it up, he comes off as pretentious.

Would never take another course with him again. Lectures are not helpful, and he makes no sense at all. Every friday he makes you pass in a weekly slip. He doesn't have d2l, and his assignments are very unclear.

He kept lectures really interesting and fun, which I'm sure was hard to do. He seemed really passionate about what he was teaching. He's easy to talk to as well, if you need an extension- he'll give it to you.

Lectures were very interetsing, and his knowledge and interest in NFLD folklore is amazing. He is willing to learn about new things more than his students. I found his marking extremely hard, and his MC on tests really random, but i loved the course. I learned so much, and liked going to class.

Going to lectures was important for this course, but a real gamble. Classes could be really interesting, or really boring. At the same time he didn't always stay on topic, and often times very little would get accomplished in a class. All in all a good course as an elective, a fair marker with helpful critisim.

Don't take the two of them in the same term - he basically just teaches the same course twice, so it's boring. He's very helpful outside of class, but can be increadibly boring to listen to.

I have to say that I agree with those of you that said Dr. Hiscock is a great prof. However, I don't agree that he is a hard marker though...I think he is fair. He is able to tell whether you really worked at something or not.I have to say I find his classes quite interesting!

Dr. Hiscock pays close attention to detail on final papers (and why shouldn't he?) but he'll do anything to help you out. Always interested in what his students have to say. Cheers.
