Phyllis is awesome. If you go to her office, she will help you make your assignments better. She might seem intimidating at first but don't be fooled, she's very supportive and will tell you how you can improve. If you take her Victorian class, get ready to read a novel a week or so. Also participation matters, a lot.

She doesn't post detailed lecture notes every week so it's hit and miss. It's always good to go to tutorial as participation and attendance matter, and if you participate often she will remember you. Bit of a tough marker on individual assignments. You can tell she enjoys what she does which is always nice. I liked her.

For a beginners course in EN, its pretty useful; I learnt a lot of things during lectures. On the other hand, as a lecturer, she was pretty monotonous and I can say, the class felt very boring most times. I did not have her as a TA so I don't know what she's like as a marker.

only reason why i didn't like this class is because i'm not an english major. she's a nice prof, very helpful and clear, choose her as a T.A leader she'll help out more. don't take this unless you're interested or it's related to your major, i didn't enjoy the class at all, but she's good for first year students. no she isn't an easy marker

People bashing her probably failed because they didn't try at all in her class. Sweetest prof I've ever had, was really helpful when you took the initiative to meet up with her outside class, and spoke very clearly. Bit slow at times, but makes up for it with interesting course material. would take another class with her for sure.

Terrible professor. She made the course extremely dull and she's a major feminist. Everything we read was about women's rights, oppression against women, and women being empowered without men. She's quiet, favors female students, is not helpful, and is just really boring.

Clear & concise in her lectures, made everything easy to understand. Assignments werent difficult & neither was the exam. Always willing to help her students and notices effort and dedication. I learned a lot from Phyllis and she's actually helped me become better essay writer. Most importantly she's passionate about the english language.

Week one: 250 summary = 10%. Week Two: 250 word paper = 1%. This went on the entire term. 1% assignments with the same amount of work of a 10%. Way too much work for a three credit course. Exam was hard. Loves her poetry so pay attention. Tests are labels as "in class assignments". If you can, switch professors.

She is a decent professor, she speaks very clearly, shes easy to understand, she uses overheads and speaks slowly in lectures, gives enough time to make good notes, but found her n the TAs a hard marker, too much stupid small 1% writing assignments when it shud be worth more, dont ever take this course as an elective, only if its ur major

she's clear and knows what she's talking about but her expectations can be unreasonable. Her exam criteria is broad and random. The syllabus has things you need to complete, yet she'll email you in the middle of the week with surprise assignments. Also has several assignments that are only worth 1 or 2% but take as much effort as something more

she's a good prof. class work sucks. if you're good in writing or wants to improve your writing, it's a course to take but it can be a difficult course if english is your 2nd language. it's a small class.

Great lecturer, has overheads and speaks s-l-o-w-l-y when info is important so you can write it down. Although her TA's are HORRIBLE when she marked my work she was a good marker but was unorganized b/c gave me the wrong grade on my transcript!

Phyllis was great. Really helpful and quite generous with her marking. She's very approachable and understands that students are taking other courses as well so if you need an extension she totally understands. This course was heavy reading though, but other than that i loved it.
