Just another prof who loves to listen to his voice. Sits down, inflicts on us long, dull lectures, then he repeats the same format at every class. Incapable to engage students. This guy should have retire a long time ago!

Attendance isn't mandatory for Fren 220, he basically makes you read out loud in turns. But you must read the novels to be able to write the papers. Not a hard class, just very very boring lectures..... he marks hard on papers, but should be able to pass with an average grade.

Sounds very knowledgeable, but zero pedagogical skills. Sits at the desk and talks for ever. Makes you think again about taking a lit class. Not recommended.

An amazing prof, the best I've ever had. He is very knowledgeable, always well prepared and very helpful. Very thorough in his historical analysis of French literature texts. I do not really like literature, but I enjoyed the class. I really recommend him as a teacher.

Easy marker - my french sucks and I always got over 80%! Very boring class though one time i had to leave halfway because my eyelids were physically shutting down. If your even remotely good at writing french you will get A no doubt.

He is well prepared for lectures, and seems to really know his stuff. Sometimes he mumbles away in french and writes obscure notes on the board which I can't really read, but I find him an easy marker when it comes to grades. He was very approachable when I went for help a few times. I think he kind of looks like kermit the frog.

Sarkonak is amazing. He knows his topics well and provokes interest in the subject. He is willing to teach you how to write even in fourth year. I have never had a teacher who spent so much time out of class making sure I understood. My marks aren't awesome, but his marking style is correct; my language level is not adequate

Weird little guy - puts in the time but way obsessive. The weirdness actually interferes with the subject matter. Stay away. Actually, the whole French department needs help. Thought tenure was a nice idea (freedom of conscience, blah blah) 'till I took French courses at UBC. Tense place, mean-spirited profs, students divided and conquered

Something's really wrong with this guy. Teaching seems to be a power trip and whatever he knows gets lost in the shuffle. It's too bad, because he seems really well read and if he treated people with respect, he'd probably be adulated. A shame.

Some resistance took place, met by harsh retaliation (grades), so we all kept a low profile. I also noticed some collaborators, but little time was left after the semester to punish those. In remembrance of all the classmates who were gunned down in his hail of words, cut in half by his numerous stares. Some resistance took place, met b

If the purpose of this very class was to reproduce the whole Vichy ambiance, then I guess that this course was a sucess. Everything was mimicked to perfection, the atmosphere was one of a diktat where questions were rarely tolerated, the supreme chef could not be challenged, or you could be deported to his office, on the next day. I noticed tho

Okay, good times. I wasn't too happy about having to take lit, but he kind of sucked me in to it and I started to care more and more. Or maybe it was the sugar in my morning coffee. Anyway, somehow the two hour classes were bearable and the shorter ones were even better. He marks up your essays like crazy but marks fairly. Lots of help with vocab.

A really bad prof! He was strict yet he failed to teach anything! His class wasn't neither a lit class nor a history one. The most frustrating of all other than his constant use of english in the class is his attitude towards students. Not an enjoyable athmosphere to be in!

He is the worst prof I've ever had.His marking is inconsistent, he marks harshly for grammar when it is a lit course & he doesn't clearly outline his expectations. He sometimes uses English in a 400 level French course which I find frustrating. He doesn't have a positive rapport and his comments are unhelpful-they don't help you to improve your work.
