Great musician - but he lets his temper get in the way of his teaching. He tripped over a student and threatened them with physical violence. "Do you want me to kick you in the face?" Avoid at all costs.

Mr. Stewart is a good musician. He has some interesting stories (that he'll share more than you hope). Overall, he is a good guy. He cares about the band. He'll get snappy with you if you can't play your parts, and he will hold that against you for the rest of the semester even if you learn the part. But, he's good if you stay on his good side.

He lost my respect as a director throughout my years at Fredonia. He is extremely unprofessional, disrespectful, and can be downright rude. He is the worst conductor I've ever seen and does not acknowledge that his students need more from him as a conductor. Rehearsals are boring - pacing is terrible. He's just all around the worst.

Truly one of the worst teachers I have ever had the misfortune to take a class with. Instead of trying to understand students' problems and help them achieve success, he basically teaches with the notion that fear will allow students to succeed. There have been multiple instances of yelling and calling students out in front of the band.

If you want to learn how to waste rehearsal time with useless stories, this is definitely the class for you. It would also be helpful if you want to learn how NOT to conduct. Oh, and you need to REALLY like playing marches, there's a ton of those... He's a great guy, but as a conductor...

Mr. Stewart is a great teacher - he learns from the students while the students learn from him. It's a unique concept that puts him above the rest. He has kept my interest in the ensemble and is a great professor to work under.

ray stewart is very laid back and cares more about helping students to love music than being a stickler for grades. as a musician, he is very passionate about the material. lots of in-class music and guest speakers in his musics of the world course.
