Comment:
Don't expect an A, she tells you at the beginning that she is not permitted to give A's due to a strange policy. This is very sketchy and unfair if you work hard, though she may give A's in rare circumstances. The book is custom, costs $80, and is not sold anywhere else. Other than that, the class is simple if you're into politics and reading

This class is a political science & upper division writing course. It's 4 papers that add up to one, with paper 4 being the final one. There are also bluebook citation homeworks. There is an assignment every week but she really helps break it down to make it easy. The TA's are super helpful. The class is interesting and the Professor is good!

Took her Cyberspeech class and she makes the material so interesting! I didn't think i'd like copyright but she lectures in a way that makes law easier to understand. she is a tough grader though but you can opt out if you do the debate. only downside is that you're forced to buy $80 book. READ THE BOOK OR YOU WONT PASS

Keep up with the readings and you should be fine. The class consists of two midterms and a final. She gives you the questions for the midterm ahead of time.

Professor Sellgren is always very delightful, and her lectures are pretty entertaining. There are two midterms and an essay like final. The midterms are fairly easy if you read the textbook, and if you are able to comprehend everything you are reading. You will definitely not pass without reading, and there is a lot of it. But overall a good class.

Gives questions to midterm in advance & sets you up to pass. Grading is done by the TAs so it could be tough or easy. No homework and debates are really interesting.

Sellgren really knows the ins and outs of law. Her lectures are really interesting and encourage students to participate and debate. Review lectures go over which questions will be asked on the midterms and final. However, my criticism of the class is that Sellgren has quite high standards for grading, considering it's only an intro class to law.

Prof. Sellgren requires a custom textbook that's $80 and necessary to pass the class. Very knowledgable about the course material. Would take her again because while she makes you work for the grade, you learn a lot in the process.

I think she is a great professor but the class was hard. If you do not know how to back up your arguments well, do not take the class. Law is not easy

She's the most outgoing and awesome professor on campus. She is so easy to talk to out of class. Beyond the classroom she has helped with so much more.

Excellent professor by making Law easily understood to her students. Her insights and the way she formats the midterms and final definitely prepares you for upper division political science or social science courses.

Hey 71a class seemed harder than 179. I recommend her for 179 classes but 71a is all up to your ta, if you have a lenient ta if not you're toast.

Lectures are long and discussions are helpful (and mandatory). Had a lot of reading but paces it in a good way. Participation in debate isn't too hard but need to know all the info, she asks the majority of the questions. Didn't completely read everything but she went over everything very clearly and tells or hints at what she's expecting. Really good and would take again.

She talks very fast. Her lectures are long and you get bored. The exams are very difficult. The TA will make it or break it for you. Reading is ESSENTIAL, not joking. No one really does well in the class so she curves it significantly. I got B- and C+ on exams and ended up with an A- in the class. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT DEBATE.

If you're thinking about law school, take a class with Prof. Sellgren. She's clear about what you need for her midterms and tests, and she teaches you how to write in IRAC method which will definitely be helpful in law school. If you show up to class, read, and participate youll be fine. I studied really hard and put in a lot of effort for my grade

She is super clear about what needs to be on the midterms and the finals in order for you to do well on them. She is honestly one of the best professors I've had at UCI . Definitely recommend her; as long as you do the reading and pay attention, you should be fine.

Participation is debate style, but it's easy. Final is harder. It's a hypothetical scenario that you have to apply precedents to. Pay attention, ask questions, and you'll pass. Super knowledgeable, will provide historical context, straightforward, and a great prof. Hope you like reading SCOTUS cases for the class. She makes everything interesting

One of the best professors I have had at UCI so far. She really knows her stuff, especially adding some historical context to the Supreme Court cases. Her lectures are intuitive and always pertain to the reading in the text. She also has some simplified models that are helpful in understanding how the Judges reasoned some precedent setting cases.

She is absolutely amazing. She's helpful and willing to walk you through the steps you need to succeed on her exams. Take advantage of her office hours as thats when she's the most helpful. During the summer, 2 midterms & 1 final. She provides you with her midterm questions in her course packet. Final - she provides you with a law & possible Q's.
