Dr. Totaro will make you realize why literature is both relevant in making sense of the human condition as well as its importance in understanding history. She is brilliant and often quite funny. You can tell that she is someone who loves teaching. If you take a course she offers, make the most of it. Oh yeah, don't miss class.

Comment:
Professor Totaro knows a lot about her topic (for this class: Shakespeare), she's extremely knowledgable and has the credentials to prove it, but she is not at all great at teaching it. Attendance is strict, even though she's late too, structure is non-existent, you only get graded on few things and no grades are posted online, and A's are extinct.

She is a great professor! She will give you optional drafts for each assignment and definitely take advantage of them, her feedback will get you to an A+! I love her sense of humor, she makes the class enjoyable and introduces different ways of looking at literature.

she was really great. she is very clear with her instructions and expectations, and the discussions really help. attendance is NOT require. i wouldnt recommend skipping often, since what we do in class really helps you practice for her papers. she loves to talk, and gets lost on rabbit trails pretty often, but its pretty entertaining.

Not that many tests, Although I took her for honors medical humanities and this class required more effort than I expected. A quiz every time we walked into class on the reading we needed to have done. Lots of reading and the exams were dependent on critical thinking, so the answer wash;t plain and simple like regular classes.

Dr. Totaro has to be the best professor I've had at FGCU. As a non-English major, she made the class easy to understand and helped with any misc. questions. She cared a lot about everyone in the class and worked hard to make everyone feel welcome. She is so good, she's made me question my major. If you take her classes, you won't be disappointed! :)

You can only miss 1 or two classes and don't be late. Buy the book, bring it everyday, do every assigned reading, cram for 2 hours before exams (she gives thorough reviews), raise your hand to talk, engage once, and only once, each class, no lap tops or cell phones - and you will get an A. Ask for whatever you need: replacement papers, help, etc.

I'm writing this after taking probably 4-5 classes with Dr. Totaro...saying she is amazing is definitely a understatement. She is by far the best professor I have ever had at FGCU. She loves what she teaches and is such an intelligent woman! She makes all her classes entertaining!

Dr. Totaro is one of the best teachers at FGCU. Attendance is mandatory and necessary with weekly quizzes. If you want to enjoy class and truly learn the material then Dr. Totaro is the teacher for you. She will make you earn your A, but it is worth the effort.

Dr. Totaro taught me more in one semester about writing and studying literature than I have learned in my entire college career. Very helpful and always there to clarify content covered in class. She's not easy and you have to work, but you'll learn SO much. Highly recommended.

She assigned Fight Club and comic books and we are watchign Island of Dr. Morleau to use for our essays. It's much better than otehr classes because the readings are interesting. She does grade strict though so be prepared and take another section if you don't want to work.

I've taken graduate and undergradate coursework with with Dr. Totaro. She's sharp as a tack and funny with high standards. She, like the other profs at FGCU, have forced me to kick my writing into gear for the graduate level.
