Comment:
The class had quite some readings to do but a lot were interesting. She is also somewhat lenient and understanding about due dates. Encourages discussion by asking questions or form small group short presentations during class. Many times is late for office hours but the information given is very helpful.

Popkin's class is pretty interesting, I was never bored or falling asleep. She is somewhat unclear about her expectations, hard to please, but overall pretty helpful, open, and easygoing. I recommend this class to anyone who enjoys reading & discussing good literature

The subject matter was really intense, but also very interesting. The reading and discussions were fascinating. Popkin's pretty good as a professor, but a little impersonal and unprepared in office hours. Also, she wasn't always clear about how to achieve what was expected on papers. She uses "bad" papers for examples of how not to write, so watch out!

Comment:
"Lectures" are more discussions because she just facilitates the section. Always brings up thought provoking questions to assigned readings. Comments on essays also helpful. Only downside is that the topic of the course (trauma) is not something that you want to wake up to three days a week.

Popkin is AMAZING! She completely changed the tone of the class into one that was more engaging and less depressing. She's excellent at directing and stimulating discussion in class, knows her literature well, and is absolutely wonderful during office hours. I highly recommend her, though it seems like she's only teaching R1B courses next term...

Overall, Suzanne's a good teacher. She's clearly passionate about literature and writing. But, she had a hard time getting us into good class discussions. Also, I didn't find her particularly helpful in office hours. Her comments and directions weren't always clear and concrete. However, Ruth, our GSI, was AMAZING!

Since the interface provides a poor method of entering the class, I had Suzanne for Comparative LiteratureR1B. She is very helpful in discussing your methods of writing. She is a bit flakey in scheduling meetings with students, but when you get some solid one-on-one discussion time with her, she is very helpful and insightful.

Essays started out short and gradually grew, instead of sudden large project. She was clear on what was expected in the essays and graded fairly.

She is very helpful with essays. There are no tests, grade is depended only on the essays themselves. The class was about trauma. It was sad yet still very interesting. She does a great job with the class and is very supportive when you participate in discussion.

Nice and fun professor. My class was on trauma, so book choice is in the eye of the beholder. Still was a depressing subject. Very relaxed class though. She is extremely helpful with essays and very supportive. Class is based mainly on 3 essays.
