Comment:
Reg succeeds because he is able to link theoretical concepts to the real world. This practical approach helps students to develop their skills in survey research and gives a sense of importance to the material. Participation makes up the bulk of the grade so if you put in the work you will do well.

-used own textbook and research for class lecture material -didn't show that questionnaire statistical research can be bias and unreliable. (Cannot come to valid conclusions using stats). -seemed to really think spiritual people were more religious than they are -I found group work(church visits) fun and engaging

Reg is a great prof who really cares if you understand the material. His lectures can be a bit slow as he usually reviews a lot of what you already have learned but it is very helpful towards the test! Must show up for class as each lab is worth 3% and its not a completion grade! Reg is a great guy who is very passionate about his work!

Textbook is a joke - the whole course is about Bibby's book and his perspective. Don't feel like I actually got an education in this class.

Bibby is one of my favorite profs! He truly cares about the work he does and the students he teaches. If you need any clarification outside of class setting he is very helpful and will make time to meet with you. I recommend taking a class with him.

Somewhat interesting material but outside of the classroom this man is total diva (i.e., Celine Dionesque).

Bibby is a decent man and he truly cares about the work he does and the students he teaches. He really tries to make statistics and research meaningful and fun. His dedication to teaching and his innovative work make this class a must take. Assignments are fair, tests are easy if you do the required reading, and attendance is crucial for your grade

Comment:
The lectures are DRY. Mostly statistics that he says not to memorize or anything. For a three hour night class, we barely ever got through any material. The content was interesting enough but it was hard to get through the lectures. HIGH textbook usage. Read the text and you'll do great.

Soci of Religion- Bibby is a good prof and very knowledgable, but if you don't agree that religion is on the rise, it may be a tough class to sit through, take his seminar class instead.

This is a good class, even though his lectures are boring and dry. Which is sad because if you want key notes (he gives hints for the exams), you have to attend the boring lectures. I actually almost fell asleep when he went through the class outline. He read the damn thing word for word. It took an hour. Not impressed.

This class is pretty easy if you go to class and just read your notes before taking the tests. Bibby isn't anal about knowing every detail, he just wants the students to have a basic understanding. The church visits are not as scary as they first seem and an interesting part of the class.

This class was very interesting however I already had an interest in this topic. I did not like his grading system, it's hard to get an A. The group presentations were more interesting than he was, everybody had to do a site visit to a church outside of their religion. This class resulted in very intersting class discussions.

if you want to read his book and, while doing so, be given reference to his other book, then take this class. tests are crazy vague, as is the marking system. maybe it is because I am not into statistics, and because the book was more for the general public than a 3000 level soc course, but I found it boring and useless. I do not recommend him.

Absolutely brutal professor. One test asked "Who was George". "George" was the german shepherd in a video. When asked about justification for question on exam, he proferred "so that you understood the material". Thanks again, Dr. Bibby, for taking about 60 hours of my life that I will never get back.
