Comment:
I had Dr. Alfaro for Linear, and it was probably the hardest class I've ever taken. He's very specific about his grading, so you need to go to class to know how he wants things done in order to get a decent grade. However, he is incredibly passionate, and brilliant. He really helps you visualize the concepts. Work hard, and you'll survive.

He assigned 260 webwork assignments, 5 projects, 3 exams, and 1 final exam. HW28.5% Exams28.5% Projects/papers15.5% Final exam28.5% I had a B in his course. The final exam was riddled with trick questions, obscure topics we didn't cover, and now I have to retake the course because I failed the final and got a C- AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

A little confusing. The class material is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. You may need to go to his office hours a few times to clear up any confusion. There is a lot of homework but it is very helpful for all of the tests taken in this course. The course is weighted and graded completely out of 20 points.

The people on here complaining about this professor were more than likely not willing to work hard. If you take one of his classes, expect to earn your grade, and if you do the work you can expect a fair grade. You will leave the class with a great deal more knowledge than when you started.

Dr. Alfaro was a great professor. I took 090 after being out of school for MANY years. There is homework and lots of class time to go over any questions. Will explain things for those who don't understand completely. Wish I could take him for the rest of my MTH courses! Great Professor!

Dr. Alfaro is, by far, the most rewarding professor I have ever had. He is definitely not easy, but his enthusiasm for the subject matter is contagious and he challenges you to the max. I agree with the statement to not take him in spring or summer...there is just too much work to do! Calculus is not easy, so why would you expect an easy prof?

Excellent professor who actually teaches the material. I have learned more from Alfaro than I have from any other mathematics professor in my college career. He doesn't go easy on you: when you get something wrong, he'll give you as much credit as he can, but... if you're wrong, you're wrong, and he'll tell you why.

This is a fantastic prof if you do ALL the assigned reading/hw. Lectures are on biggest topics from the unit-ask questions if he doesn't go over something else you do not understand and he will answer it. Bonus points for usage of fun to learn. ie: rubix cubes.

Never, EVER take him in the summer or spring semesters. I didn't expect to walk into a computer lab the first day. He uses WebAssign through the Calc book, which is just an online version of the book itself, instead of actually teaching. The tutors walking around the comp lab taught us while he sat at his desk fiddling with his own computer.

Dr. Alfaro expects a lot out of his students but he is always available for questions and genuinely cares about your learning. Expect to have to work hard in his classes but you'll come out with the grade you deserve as well. He gives really good lectures and for 328 we even got to have some fun with rubik's cube.

This professor is bottom line a very smart, but upperlevel professor. I know that you will not like him if you do not love math, or do not go above and beond in lower level classes. 300+ he is grade, below that proble not the better one to take for an easy grade.
