I might be biased because Elia's my advisor, but I love his smaller undergrad courses. Super informative, welcomes participation. Def has long lectures but if you take notes you'll be totally fine. Gives a good perspective on cultural heritage.

It's a fairly easy A, but it's not the most interesting 'easy A' class you can take at BU. Search further.

This class is not as easy as people make it. Although the material is not hard, the exams can be very specific. Come to the lectures and take really good notes; you don't have to buy the textbook.

Some interesting topics. Otheres not so much. Go to class and listen/take notes and you will be prepared for the exam (if you can get previous exams...they help because he often repeats questions) VERY IMPORTANT: He doesnt curve the class. 90 and above is A. If you are getting 80's you are failing,if you want an A or A-that is.

Easy class- go to the lectures but don't to the reading. Discussion section is pointless but attendance is mandatory. Don't buy the books- huge waste of money.

Good teacher.. But extremely boring. He just reads off notes. He also turns off the lights, which makes it a great atmosphere to sleep. I basically sleep at least 20 mins in each of his class

He's a really good professor and this class was sooo easy. Definitely take it as a humanities requirement. Also don't buy the book. Just go to lecture.

I really like Prof. Elia. He makes the class interesting, and I definitely was not all excited about some of the subjects we went over. If you go to class, you definitely don't need to do the reading; I probably read from the book once. You have to do some studying before the exams, but they're really not too bad.

as a professor, he is clear and enthusiastic, but the class material was horrendously boring (for me, since i was only taking this as a requirement). i found it very hard to stay awake in the class - the lights go off and it's all powerpoint. you DO have to study to get an A in the class!

I got an A but it was NOT a breeze. I'm prob the first to say this: you SHOULD buy the book. It really clears things up, helped me immensely even though he tests only on what he says in class. ANYTHING he says goes and I found it really easy to miss stuff-it's not all obvious! The final was definitely easier than the first 2 tests. I learned a lot!

I love Prof Elia and is, by far, one of my favorite professors at BU. Interesting course material and the lectures aren't dry at all, and he covers the vast amount of information very well. Exams are not hard if you study lecture outlines/notes, and maybe skim the book for clarification. Definitely take this to fulfill humanities requirement!

Extremely good prof, everything comes from lextures so there is no guessing on the exams, professional and friendly, you do have to show up but gave our class 5 days that we could miss (far more than most teachers). As long as you actually study for more than the day before, you should have no prob.

Good class. I probably would've gotten an A if I had studied a little harder or stayed awake through the whole class, but I got a B. He had interesting lectures I just don't get enough sleep. He had some mannerisms that reminded me of Ross Geller from Friends and that made me smile. He also had a cute TF when I took the class in '05

Easy class. Everything is based on his lectures (which can be kind of funny). He posts his outlines online so you know exactly what to take notes on.

Elia is one of the few professors who can keep control of a class of 200-300 and make it look effortless. Lectures are really interesting, more like storytime than classtime. Go to lecture, stay awake (not hard), take decent notes on the outline and you will do pretty good. If you bother reading the textbook, you will get an A. Its a nobrainer.
