Richard is a real gem. Complex analysis is a more abstract math class than a lot of previous undergrad classes and he makes it very accessible and goes out of his way to help students. A lot of students felt the tests were difficult, but if you study from class examples and homework for you will be fine. Very cool course and great prof all around.

He's a nice person, but a bit awkward when he speaks, and he sometimes make mistakes when lecturing. Overall not amazing but not terrible either

He's a really nice guy and good lecturer. However, he doesn't provide examples for you to apply to homework problems which makes it very challenging and long.

Seems like a nice person but not a good instructor. Ridiculously long assignments and marks harshly. Makes a lot of mistakes on the blackboard and makes you wonder if your notes are riddled with errors. Overall a poorly planned course: spent final lecturing teaching things he said won't be on the final.

Great math prof. Writes everything on whiteboard very clearly. He also has a great set of typed notes. The assignments are sometimes time consuming. The first midterm was really long. This was a great course that really showed me the power of linear algebra.

This class has some pretty broad subjects and it's much better if you've taken upper level math to have a better comprehension as topics are only covered briefly. Froese wants students to succeed and adjusted midterms to even out grades over the term. A little quiet, but clear. Funny guy who finds the beauty in math and wants to share it.

Nice guy. His assignments are ridiculously long and he expects you to do it all despite only marking half the questions! Loves questions that test your patience in doing algebra

Kind and pleasant man, always willing to help. Extremely soft-spoken, so it can be hard to hear him from the back of the class.

fantastic professor and is one of my favourites. very easy to understand and his notes are very clear and never messy (he has gradeschool-teacher writing!!) he skips some steps sometimes but is always willing to go over the problem again if you don't understand or you can go to office hours where he is super helpful. great prof!

The BEST MATH PROF I'VE HAD! Very clear and concise lectures. Very clear and concise online notes (in case you miss a class, but you should still attend because he gives excellent examples that are not in the online notes). He's not easy nor hard, just simply tests on what is expected of you from this course. Best math prof in my 4 years at ubc.

I think this prof is really good, in fact he is the best math prof I have had so far at ubc out of 4 or 5. He's friendly, his explanations are clear, he speaks english fluently and he's actually making an effort to teach in an interesting way. A+

I thoroughly enjoyed Froese's class. He was funny and kept class interesting (ie. wont be bored during class). During his office hrs, he was extremely nice and willing to help, which I found rare. His lectures matched his exam questions. He seemed to run into tables/walls during lectures - that was fun to watch. I would def take his course again!

This guy is really good. Clear, good pace, good notes, and sometimes even funny. Extremely helpful in office hours - really cares about helping you understand the homework. I recommend switching to his class if you don't have him.

Awesome prof. I was reading previous comments, I think maybe he changed since then. I took Math 255 with him sept - dec 2007 and he did an excellent job. People from other sections came to my section to listen to him. During midterms, we would have LESS people in the exam room than during lectures (that is rare). Very clear, concise. Choose froese.

He is not too good at teaching, and the midterm and final were quite hard. most of the applications he taught in class which we certainly spent most of time on were not on the midterm/final. He said he once made his class average as low as 20%...enough being said. however, he is a nice person.

he's an average prof. his writing is too small, but it is very USEFUL that he posts all the notes he writes on the website so i never need to physcially takes the notes in class. I don't like the way he often pauses when he talks, it makes him seem to be uncertain about the knowledge. but i can tell he does put effort into it.he's a nice guy though

Although quite friendly, his method of teaching is not very effective. He wrote the book on the subject(you can check...he literally did write one and it is used for the class),but on class he writes too much, sidetracks and is uninteresting. The class did really badly on the subject. Although my mark was an A,i forgot all i learned within weeks.
