Fumerton is old and has tenure and you can tell, and the result is hilarious. He wears sweatclothes everywhere, and demonstrates philosophical concepts with macabre examples in his lectures, which is a constant source of humor in the Philosophy department. Would recommend.

Class had only 3 graded assignments: a midterm, a final, and a 5-page paper. Lots of reading, but you can get away not reading everything if you go to lecture. Lectures can end up being long and boring, or short and interesting, depending on the topic. The review sessions are the key to the tests; go to them and you'll likely do well.

I took Philosophy & the Just Society thinking it would be a boring gen ed, but Fumerton's passion for philosophy and availability during & outside of office hours changed my mind. You don't need to read the materials if you go to lecture; even the review sessions go over all the exam questions. Overall great course.

Go to study sessions and you will do fine in this class, if you skip class, don't do readings, and then skip study session you will obviously fail. If you do two out of those three you should get at least a B. Some lectures are very interesting some are kind of bland depends on person I guess. Overall great professor I would recommend

He would often go on tangents, and it was hard to pay attention in class. He made up for it in the review sessions though. I could have only gone to those two sessions and never gone to class and I would've still walked out with at least a B.

no need to read the book, just go to class and do the review... the review was the test -- do that and you can't get below a B

SUCH A GREAT PROFESSOR! It is because of Fumerton that I am a Philosophy major. His lectures are great and he clearly explains the material. Often you don't need to read the text to do well in the course because he explains it so well in lecture. Not alot of work for this course either. HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. FUMERTON!

One of my favorite professors. If you can read a philosophy book and understand it, take the course, it should be an easy A. If you are confused by philosophy, you might not do so well. He has very good explanations and stories. Awesome professor.

Fumerton is a great teacher. He's really helpful in review sessions for the tests. He comes to lecture in sweats and a t-shirt. I took this class on a recommendation that he would be a great lecturer and he is. Makes the class really interesting. First philosophy class, and definitely not the last.

Honestly, best professor I've had so far in college. In my group of friends he's considered a legendary badass. He's the type to show up to lecture in sandals with socks and sweats if that gives you an idea. He's also very helpful - he gives you his home phone so you can call for questions, and goes over every question on the test at reviews.

Philosophy and the Just Society. Awesome class, awesome professor. Fumerton is a wonderful lecturer! If you have an interest in philosophy, do pursue this course. Some kids were dozing off, saying the course is tough...if you pay attention, do the readings, and attend the review sessions, you'll do fine.

Fumerton is hilarious (in a morbid and sometimes subtle way) and very intelligent. I feel like attending lectures and going to the review sessions will get you an A in the class (along with not completely bombing the paper). I've taken 3 classes with him now and plan to take more in my senior year. Highly recommended to take the class w a friend

He's a good professor, he rambles a lot and goes off on tangents that don't make sense at the time, but they're good examples for the exams. Make sure to read the textbook!
