If you want a good grade, be prepared to put in A LOTTT of work. Lots of quizzes, labs, and tests. You get a page of notes for each quiz, but you'll need every inch of it because they are tough. You are completely on you're own because there are no lectures and if you email him, he is very snarky and makes it clear that you should not contact him.

Avoid this Professor at all costs. Incredibly rude, does not offer any help or answers to labs and homework. I once emailed him asking if I was on the right track to figuring out a question on the homework and he responds with "Figure it out yourself". I know a lot of people cheat because it's the only way to pass the class, so get ready to do that

The course grade s consisted of video discussions that are 100 word discussion of how the material from the videos relates to the material in the text, weekly quizzes, and 3 tests. He does drop several of your lowest grades. The questions on the tests are very straight forward and he doesn't try to trick you. I enjoyed the class.

I took this class online, and he made it sound like it was going to be really hard, but it wasn't. There's 2 things due every week: a quiz, and a 100 word video discussion.. Every 4 weeks there is a chapter test and a comprehensive final in the end. He drops the lowest 3 tests, 3 video discussions and 1 test. Do the work and you'll pass.

I put off taking this class with Johnson because of the reviews, yet it ended up being one of my easiest classes... Seriously, 60% of people who take this class get an A, 30% get a B. He has one of the most generous assignment drop policies I've ever seen.

No idea why people rate Johnson so low. At least 60% of people or more get an A on every assignment, quiz, and exam. I know this for a fact because he emails us the breakdown. You literally get 2 weeks to do one chapter assignment. He even drops your lowest quiz, lowest exam, lowest assignment. This class is NOT hard if you do the work!

He clearly tries to teach, but it comes across as him knowing as much about the material as his students who are there to learn about it. I've ended up having to read the textbook for any type of guidance for the homework. He does post short homework help online, but even its clarity is low. Be prepared to teach yourself.

He has his heart in the right place, but this guy is not a particularly good instructor. Most times, it feels as if he's not at a level much higher than most of the students. The saving grace here is that he doesn't require you to come to class and has all lectures recorded online. You have a mid-term, final, and some quizzes for points. Easy A, B.

Not a professor I would recommend at all. I would've have had a 100% on both exams if I had done things the EXACT way he wants them done. E ven if you know a better way or another way of coding, you MUST do it the way he wants or you're screwed!

This course is perfect online; if you have a busy life then this course is great to take. Quizzes are only 5 points, and there are only about 7 of them (you can drop the lowest grade). Final is worth 200 points; around 60% of your grade. As long as you do well on the midterm and final, you are fine. Lecture videos help a lot.

I didn't care for this professor. He knows what he is talking about and is very clear in the videos he posts. However, it seemed like you were always at least a little wrong about everything. Even the book was scrutinized during each chapter for this or that not being right. Professor Johnson did not make Java as fun as it should be.

Very boring class. No homework. Only grades are 6 15 point quizzes, a 100 point midterm, and 200 point final. If you don't need to come to class don't. All his lectures are online.

WORST TEACHER EVER! I left 260 and was very interested in learning Java until this "teacher" ruined it. He reads off his power points and is very dry, tells you to watch his videos instead of actually teaching you to code and when he does code in class it seems like he doesn't even know what he's doing. They need someone else to teach this course!

Not a great teacher AT ALL. Wish there was another option for this CIS 270. My advise if you don't know about Java at all, like me, watch all of the Bucky Roberts videos about the chapter before tackling his BORING and useless Power Points or attempting the assignments. So sad that I learned more from YouTube than the professor.

Not a good professor. He managed to take my favorite class and make me hate it. He is very dry, extremely poor at explaining things, and gets upset if you try to ask him a question or point out one of his many mistakes. Is often unprepared for class, but the class itself is easy enough that you should be able to get by on your own

Dr. Johnson is a terrible professor. He is discouraging, rude, and does not want to help with anything in regards to helping fix code. He acts like you are stupid if you speak out and ask something in class. If he cannot figure out prog during class time, how are we supposed to figure out the prob. I received an A in his class, but not with his help.

Decent instructor. Change in textbook apparently from previous semesters and he was totally unprepared, which makes the class much more difficult.

I took CIS 260 online. I read the texbook and viewed all required content online earlier than required. I got an A in the class but Professor Johnson is extremely boring to listen to for an online course. The book was very helpful to me since Professor Johnsons videos were painfully boring to watch. Online class is more difficult than it should be.

Ditto previous comment. Great Instructor. Reads over PowerPoints and goes over examples in book. Quizzes are over each chapter. Midterm and Final are written programs. As long as you are able to do his assigned programs for each chapter the Midterm and Final are easy.
