He is a world-class prof - one of the few that truly values diversity of thought & believes we are capable of scholarly debate. Primarily Socratic seminar discussion; exams are written. He teaches us what to think, not what to think & always makes time for us. Lectures are inspiring & demonstrate his love of teaching. Took two courses with him.

Rambling, often incoherent lectures. He "plays Devil's advocate" although sometimes it seems like his real interest is making students angry. Sometimes he brings up good points, but sometimes his claims are crazy, like that since everyone in our class believed women should be paid equally for equal work, we have "a lack of diversity of thought."

Comment:
People tend to like him because of his willingness to argue for unpopular opinions; however, he makes inflammatory statements with no regard for human decency ("I bet all of your mothers have hit your fathers at least once") and makes offensive comments in class that cross the boundary of "unpopular opinion," veering into ignorance and disrespect.

Comment:
Worst professor in 4 years. Confusing, rude, and insulting toward other departments and students' opinions. Class should be a seminar, but he treats it like a lecture; becomes angry when people don't participate. Doesn't give readings consistently; gets annoyed when people don't read what he thinks he assigned. Shouldn't have taken this course.

I took Criminology with Professor Moran. Class was always engaging and enjoyable, the content is incredibly interesting. He's a little disorganized, and you only have two assignments the entire semester- essays for a midterm and a final. Keep up on the reading and you should be fine.

Prof. Moran is definitely a character and a little scattered as some people have said, but if you're like me that isn't a problem. He just wants you to pay attention and know the material. How you get there doesn't really matter to him. He knows his stuff and I didn't have a problem with his grading at all. Very reasonable if you do the work.

A true college professor, in the best sense of the term. Yes, he can be a bit scatterbrained, but those who underestimate him only hurt themselves. He is a true intellectual and to have him as a professor is really a gift and should be treated as such!

Moran is freaking intelligent! He doesn't want to put in the effort to grade papers and exams, so he doesn't assign more than is necessary and required by the college. He focuses on leading fantastically interesting class discussions and motivating his students to think critically about "problems" in society. Take this class for fun if nothing else

Fascinating lectures! Great sense of humor! However I did find him to be a bit of a tough grader- if you are worried about your GPA take his class ungraded. Otherwise- great professor!

Criminology was amazing! Mr. Moran is one of my favorite professors. Every class was captivating. I felt like I learned something new every couple of seconds. I seriously woke up, looking forward to his class, it was the highlight of my week. And he has a guest lecturer... definitely a major highlight!! Also, he is really caring and accessible.

Social Problems is the most interesting class I have taken, EVER! I love Moran, he is a genius. His ideas are extremely intellectually stimulating. I loved going to class. Although, maintaining an open mind is essential for this class (...and for life).

He doesn't really mean half the things he says, but he pokes you to think about the whole issue and will question rather or not some social problems are really as bad as we think they are. He will expose you to a new way of thinking. It was funny that as the only guy in the class (5 colleges), he effectively used my different viewpoints in the clas

To those of you who said that he's conservative, you OBVIOUSLY don't know him (or have read any of his books...which he does not, by the way, require you to read.) He just presents himself that way to force you to think. He is an AMAZING professor!

Moran is an excellent professor. I really like his approach of lots of reading and less busy work. He often plays the devil's advocate... so beware. I took four classes with him because his classes were so interesting! Great professor.
