Comment:
Dr. Neumann's class bored me to tears. It was literally just showing up and listening to him drone on about someone else's writing. His class was not challenging at all. I wrote both of my short stories the night before they were due and he gave me a very high A, so if you're looking for an easy A take Dr. Neumann. He will just bore you to death.

Dr. Neumann is wonderful. He likes to repeat things class after class and easily goes on tangents. He can sort of end up accidentally taking over completely during workshops, but he really knows what he's talking about and covers basically any ideas others might have (optional hand-raising to add on) so it's all good. Obviously knowledgeable.

Your grade is 50% for one essay, and 25% the midterm and 25% the final. He makes the tests very simple. Super. Easy. Lectures are long, he sometimes rabbit trails, but they're interesting. Advice: READ THE BOOKS BEFORE CLASS -- Like during winter or summer break before class, unless you naturally have a ton of free time to read during the semester.

This class was a 3-hour long lecture once a week - not his fault - and was pretty easy. Read a novel each week, and then spend three hours analyzing every last detail. Watched a couple movies. Learned a lot, and he kept my attention, but 3 hours is still a very long time to spend in a chair listening to him ramble. Tests are essays.

Neumann is crazy in 215. He likes to make up words and phrases to describe the creative writing process. Sometimes he was late and it seemed like he had more than coffee in that thermos (?). Values creative content over grammar in stories. Very easy A- would recommend for the class but won't be taking again.

I always looked forward to Dr. Neumann's class. The first half of the semester was mostly devoted to reading short stories and the textbook. The second half was all workshop sessions. Workshop was a lot of fun. Dr. Neumann gave a lot of helpful comments and constructive criticism in the process. I am looking forward to 315 with him in the spring.

I took the honors version of this class and it was wonderful. Very laid back class thta was fun to attend. The only thing you need to do in this class is write a short story, which is enjoyable.

Neumann is an interesting professor, and willing to go over things. He tends to ramble a bit, but covers the material. Not so wild about some of his book choices, but that's personal preference. The papers were long and very open. We had guidance but a lot of freedom which was both good and bad. I'd take him again for another class.

Defiantly a fair class for people who don't want to be professional fiction writers. The workshops can get long, but keep up with the readings and you'll be fine.

Very nice, kind of funny. Left-handed. He writes his A's weird and it would distract me haha. Doesn't give a lot of assignments, definitely keep up with the reading (which isn't too bad) because the midterm is an essay comparing 3 of your readings. I would recommend him.

I really enjoyed the class. The book choices were good and interesting. Discussion of the material was enlightening and clear. Unfortunatly he was not willing to be helpful on something that I didn't get. So, I went to another source willing to help me understand. He does have a dreamy voice and I found him to be HOT! HOT!! HOT!!!

I had him for Lit and Short stories. In lit the reading was a bit demanding, but I didn't read a single book and came out with an A+ (for some perspective, though, I'm a 4.0 student)via a couple of lectures. In ss he was funny but I hated the workshop format and having to read the terrible writing of others. But no final for SS!

Dr. Neumann is an extremely helpful and nice man. If you ask him questions he will take the time to make sure you understand. He took attendance, so that is easy points. The books we read were interesting and you write two essays but they are not difficult if you read the books. The last essay is fun and you get to pick your own topic.Take him!

Really cool teacher. Sometimes his randomness can be confusing, but usually worth it. I had two classes with him one semester, ENG 315 and ENG 200, and depending on the class can be a very easy grader (gave me a 'B' on a paper that I thought I was going to bomb). Take him before you graduate for sure.

I don't like his taste in literature, but he's a good teacher. He's a REALLY easy grader. The only thing that sucks is that you have to read an entire book every week to week and a half. It's rigorous, but you can skip reading them and still figure it out. Bonus: some of his random stories and jokes will make you fall out of your chair laughing!

definately one of my favorite instructors at MSU so far. My degree doesn't even require any more english courses, but I would gladly take another course with him. He really gets the students to interact a lot. Really learned a lot about a subject I normally am not good in! def. take him if you get the choice!

Neumann is a funny guy. His monotone voice makes the lectures seem like bedtime stories, but he throws in a joke or laugh here and there. His grading system and papers are very easy to pass, plus you learn a lot. Neumann rocks!

He's a really nice guy and a pretty good teacher. Lectures can be a little dry sometimes. The literature is good, but he assigns a lot of it. Be prepared for a lot of reading. The class is two tests and an essay. Not bad.
