Rich is a lot of fun. Taking his class was like Reading Rainbow at the University level! He picks great texts, knows pop culture as well as advanced literary criticism, and his really long tangents are made up for by his personality--for the first 20 minutes, the tangent's actually worth it ! Good guy.

INTRO TO POP CULTURE... beware!! This class is all about Hamlet. You will read Hamlet and a victorian novel. It is not what you would expect from an Intro to Pop Culture class at all (in a bad way!) But Rich is really nice and easy to listen to. He'll assign a ridiculously LARGE amount of reading. But he always cuts the night class of at 7:30-8:00.

One of the most fun, interesting professors I've had. Very accessible. Showed a wide range of films: popular, cult, noir, experimental.. I took this class to fulfill a requirement my senior year, fully expecting it to be an awful, low-level class, but both learned a lot, and love it.

You come out of the class with a clear understanding of how to classify nad critique what you read according to cannonical forms. Rich keeps his lectures simple, clear, and cogent. Unlike some of the reading, papers and tests are easy. Talk in class only if you have something meaningful to say.
