Professor Sorrell was a truly passionate educator. I was privileged to be his student after pushing the waitlist system to get a seat in his class. He suddenly passed 3 weeks before the semester ended. He taught on the construction of the Panama Canal for his last lecture. He wanted you to learn at Brookdale. He started in 1971 and finished 1018.

Prof Sorrell is amazing!!! His lectures are a little boring, but he always lets you out early every single class. Doesn't use canvas, but he tells you exactly everything you need to do in order to get an A grade, B grade or C grade. Really recommend, would 100% take a class of his again if I had to. Amazing :)

He's a really nice teacher and enjoys what he teaches but he doesn't use canvas and his lectures are really boring. It makes you not want to come to class. If you're more interested in having a lively teacher and not boring lectures find someone else. He still uses a projector from like the 90's to view maps. Very nice man but very old school.

One of my best classes. He seems tough at first but is clear in his requirements and made the lectures interesting and informative. Used the book as reference material, but if you came to class and listened he told you what would be on the tests. Loved having him and would definitely take any class he taught

Had him for one semester and honestly he is one of my favorite professors. He loves what he teaches and gets the class involved. Gives breaks in every class. Gives very clear notes that he projects on the over head. As long as you pay attention and write down what he writes down you should have no problem passing the class.

Great teacher and easy class. There were 3 tests, 2 optional papers and 1 optional trip to Thomas Edison National Historical Park. Knowledgeable about subject. Gave great hints. Class was blend of lecture and short movie clips. Truly wanted to see everyone succeed. Allowed test retakes. Great narrator. Tests based off lecture notes. No surprises.

We always get out early, no need to read book for tests; all MC based of his notes. If you write a short paper, you get a B; and another project you get an A. Tests (which you can retake) are graded on generous curve and papers are not graded. If you don't do extra project, it is still impossible to get less than B+. Take him.

Professor Sorrell is a nice guy and lovely Professor. History is not my best subject and I made sure to do my very bests on tests and handed in both projects to try to receive a good grade. I'm not a good test taker but he told me you can retake them so I did and ended up doing a lot better the second time. Not all profs. let you retake tests

Dr. Sorrell was the first professor to actually make history interesting for me. Super nice guy, very intelligent. You get to pick the grade you want. For a C, just take the 3 tests. For a B, take the tests and write a short opinion essay. For an A, do the previous tasks plus an "A" project -either go to Ellis Island or write a book report.

I wish he taught more classes!. 3 MC Tests based directly off his notes. A small optional paper for a grade of B, and another project paper for a grade of A. Doesn't actually "grade" papers; it's a pass or let's you correct it. Also, lets you retest at the end or hand in missed worked. Super nice guy.

FANTASIC. AMAZING. GREAT. BEST PROFESSOR. I don't know what else to say. I hate history, but professor Sorrell made it SO interesting. The first day he makes it extremely clear what you need to get the grade you want. Tests are RIGHT FROM the notes he writes on the board. Take him. I recommend 100%. 2 papers, not long. 3 tests. Amazing class.

Great professor, really not many other ways to say it. History is my favorite subject so having a teacher who is passionate about the subject and makes it enjoyable is something special. Outlines what you have to do to get the grade you want in his class on the first day. I wish more professors were as straightforward as Sorrell.

Don't really like history, but he made it very enjoyable. On the first day of class, he made it very clear about what work to do in order to get a certain grade. There are 3 tests, and then an opinion paper and a paper about a trip that are optional. His tests are pretty much just like his notes, so the class is very easy.

He is a really good professor. He makes the class interesting. He doesn't use canvas or powerpoints. The only thing I did not like in the class was that he wrote his notes on paper, and then projected them. His handwriting is really difficult to read.

He is a great teacher. All his test are based on his class notes. In the beginning of the course he breaks down what you need to do to get each letter grade. Crystal clear lecture. Obviously can tell he loves history. Didn't really use the book. But you will need it to write your essays. Even then the essays are short.
