Comment:

Dr. Warren is the bee's knees. He gets that HIS154 is an GEP course, yet he still makes it intriguing. He also literally wrote the textbook which is incredibly helpful. As far as work, you'll submit 10 source responses (min. 250 words) throughout the semester; there are also a few quizzes and exams. Altogether a neat professor and a cool class!

Comment:

Warren is the man. Highly recommend him for an intro class. Only homework over the semester is 10 short (about one page) response essays based on primary sources. Exams are overall easy. Highly recommend.

Dr. Warren is super passionate about the subject and loves what he does. He wrote the book we use in class so expects you to read it thoroughly and attentively. There are 2 geography quizzes and 2 tests, mostly lectures and poorly detailed powerpoint that are only random pictures and maps.

I worked so hard in this class and took good notes and struggled so much. The course is discussion based and he briefly mentions actual important info. The test is filled with statistics that have no relation to what was learned. The essays are so ambigious that you cant actually do them.

Tough tests, geo quizzes, and papersassignments, but keeping up with the reading and going to class will prepare you for these. Warren tries to make history interesting but the lectures and be long and boring. He knows his students but doesn't require active participation.

this course in general is a lot of reading, no matter who you take. Dr. Warren always makes the lectures super engaging and interesting. History can get boring, but I have never met someone so passionate about history before. He makes you excited about it. Its a lot of reading, but if you do the reading he will love you. TAKE HIM!

Dr. Warren is one of the best professors I will ever have in college. He is all over the place in class but it is energizing he is also willing to help. He is probably the most intelligent person I know, don't let that come off as arrogant. His course will be very hard if you are not a hard worker/ do ALL of the readings which is a lot. TAKE HIM

Professor Warren is great. Sure, he can be a little arrogant and there is a lot of reading but he is intelligent, fair, helpful, funny, he seems to love what he teaches, and he genuinely cares about his students. That is more than a lot of professors can say.

The worst, most arrogant man I have ever met! I have a 3.9 and am an IR major, and work harder than anyone I know, and yet, this intro. class has been the hardest college class I have ever taken, harder than advanced French and Honors classes! I hear he is intelligent outside of class, but in class, his lectures are unorganized and incoherent.

Warren is nice guy, smart as hell, funny, keeps class interesting. Might come off a bit condescending for paper comments (doing that crap like writing 'no' and circling it 7 times.) His class is not easy but fair. Would recommend for a history major.

Comment:

One of the best SJU has to offer. Gives you all sides of an argument so you can make your own opinion. Has his own views, but does not belittle you if you disagree. No clear class structure, so he allows great discussion between the whole class. Made me very interested in Mexican history as well as immigration. If you can, take Dr. Warren.

Comment:

Very smart, sooo funny, and always interested in students learning. Expects a decent amount out of you, but it's completely do-able. Read the assignments, participate, go to CLASS and you're golden. 2 multi. tests and 2 essay tests. Essays are a bit hard but not terrible. Also--he's a hottie.
