I was excited to take this class and maybe Rick is excited to teach it, but execution was not 100%. I did all the readings before before tests and sometimes the answers on the online test did not match to the readings - frustrating. He has messy spelling & grammar. Still got an A. It helps that I enjoyed the content and had fun writing the paper.

I found him very confusing, and highly UN responsive or at least with useful response to email. His grading seemed arbitrary and there was never any feedback provided. His course layout was confusing and babbling. I would NOT take another course with him.

Confusing course, often had little to no idea of the actual criteria or what we were supposed to learn from any reading. When contacted by email he was quite rude, so I gave up trying to decipher his instructions and muddled my way through. That said, he is an was marker.

Great guy, not a great lecturer. Rambles and confuses people. But his notes packages are awesome, and he is super happy to explain anything in person (I think he just hates public speaking.)

(I'm an UBC alumna) He is wonderful, engaging, and inspiring! The lectures are kind of long but he makes it interesting. He is also very helpful and knowledgeable. You have to work for a good mark, but he is very clear about the criteria so it can be done. He also provides notes in D2L to make notetaking as painless as possible.

Very insightful and friendly teacher, really enjoyed his class. A little bit of problems with technology but it's not really an issue. Very leaniant on time, directly tells you what will be on the test as long as you pay attention. You can be successful as long as you learn/memorize what he wants, I recommend him for sure!

Honestly, he seems like a nice enough guy, but his lectures are all over the place. He tends to go off on random tangents in the middle of his lecture so I have no idea where to stop and start taking notes... and I end up with no notes. He is vague, his "exams" are unclear, and his view of the wold and anthropology is very white and anglo saxon.

I took his class a long time ago however one thing he gave me was the gift that kept with me throughout my university degree. He had passion and he passed that on. He will seriously be one of my all time favorite people and educators because of that. Thank you Rick.

His class would be wonderful if it was online, I took the class in person. Slow, boring lectures that are incomprehensible, numerous erroneous points in every lecture, confusing emails, lack of structure or apparent fair grading system. I feel like I didn't learn anything new in this class (personal opinion). He does bring very good guest speakers.

Great course and organized well. 5 quizzes, 3 essays, 1 term paper. No midterm or final. Midterm is one of the essays and the final is your paper. Easy to follow and a great gpa booster along with learning about BC.

Rick is great, but not everyone likes his teaching method. This course is interesting and relatively easy. Buy used text. He does not require the latest edition. Archaeology doesn't change much (his words).

Go to class!! I suggest taking the section offered half online with him. In class he tells you the exact question he will ask on the midterm. The multiple choice section quizzes are based on the text. Funny guy but needs to learn how to use the internet! It makes the class somewhat entertaining...

Brilliant guy. Take this course, its easy. Read his notes, all midterms are based on his notes. Easy grade. Boring but sometimes entertaining. Self taught course but easy. Never read my textbook, pointless to have purchased. Funny guy.

Rich is super easy going. Good format for quizzes and tests. However his lectures are very very pointless and not prepared though he knows his stuff. He just can't seem to get it across. Lets you hand in late work without fuss. A nice guy.
