Comment:
Dr. Grosberg is one of the greatest lecturers I have had during my time at UC Davis; however, he can be very rude and condescending to those that ask him questions during class. He makes you answer your own question, even though you are asking him because you dont know the answer. Despite this, the class is fairly easy.

Rick isn't the nicest professor I've met, but he is a pretty good lecturer and definitely knows what he is talking about. Lectures (and lecture slides) were always clear and easy to follow. I took the class with Rick and Jay, and their notes are very detailed. They also give thorough study questions, so I was well prepared for all tests.

He is really engaging and entertaining in lecture. However he doesn't explain things as well as the other professor who co-teaches the class. He gives really detailed study guides that are really helpful. Exams are based heavily on lecture. Make sure you do well on the 1st exam because its easier than the 2nd one. Also there is no curve or ec.

He's cool. But seriously, no one cares that much about Darwin. Why focus almost an entire lecture to Darwin. I understand he played a big part, but how is that going to help me in my job? Other than this, cool dude, funny jokes, best part though are his dogs!!!!

Rick is an incredibly engaging, fun, and informative lecturer. There is a lot of information to take in during class, but he presents it all in a very clear way. His study guides are thorough and organized and include outlines of his lectures as well as straightforward study questions. Make sure you do them in order to do well on the exams!

Rick is an award-winning, distinguished professor for a reason. His lectures are engaging and informative, in class or via podcast. Warning: grade is heavily dependent upon testing. The tests are regurgitative in nature, not necessarily an accurate assessment of grasp on subject matter. DO THE STUDY QUESTIONS and use their language exactly for A's.

Great prof for bis2b. Rick is so funny and keeps lectures engaging. He is very accessible and approachable outside of class. Study guides are almost exactly like the exams, so do them. His lectures are faster and less structured/clear than Jay's, but they make a great team overall. He made the class fun, but gets grumpy when people come in late

Professor Grosberg made the material we were learning fun and he is very engaging. Bis 2b isn't a hard class, the material we learned was easy, but there was a lot. Their exams focus on the lectures so you don't have to read the textbook. Do the study questions!

Rick's lectures were sometimes slow and repetitive, but that definitely helped to really get you to understand the material and I feel like I retained more information for the exam when Rick lectured the material and he was very engaging. Exams are lecture heavy, so just go to class (or listen to the podcasts/follow along with slides posted). Good.

Rick does a great job teaching the material, I didn't like how repetitive his lectures were but that does help you learn the material I guess. I preferred his study questions to Jay's and make sure you do them! Lab is annoying but the class is fairly easy if u go to class and pay attention.

Good professor, him and Jay make a great team. They make a very boring class a little more bearable. Make sure you go to lecture and look over the practice questions or you won't pass.

he's a good professor. Really engaging and great personality. Do good in lab because every point counts. Know the lecture material and discussion material and that's basically the midterms. Personally, I prefer learning about DNA like is 2A so it was hard for me to get into ecology and evolution. Good luck.

He's a nice guy and is really engaging but I don't really see how disproved theories such as catastrophism (which he says is critical) has any real life applications.

Super nice and well-respected prof whose lectures are funny and engaging. You can tell he's really passionate about his subject and his enthusiasm makes going to class easy. There's a lot of work, but none of the concepts are super advanced or tricky so as long as you do the work and are reasonably awake in class you will do well.

Dr. Grosberg is a great guy. He is a great lecturer and is supper into what he teaches. The tests for this class were pretty easy but they are very nit picky about grading. If you have old midterms you will be fine because they are identical to his new tests. Overall great class, great guy, but the woman he teaches with (strauss) is super boring.

Professor Grosberg was awesome! His lectures were very well structured and he was always willing to help in OH. Tests were easy but seemed to be graded pretty harshly. If you're ever on the fence about a question that you got wrong, submit a regrade. He is very lenient with giving back points. Overall him and Stach are a great team.

John and Rick are the two best professors I have had at Davis thus far. They are not only here for research, but here to TEACH and are amazing at juggling both with ease. I have nothing but good things to say for the both of these men. Tests are lecture-based and everything is straight-forward and about the big picture. Take this class with them!
