Comment:

Professor Murray is a wonderful teacher who keeps students attentive by throwing in the occasional joke. However, I was disappointed that he missed 8 lectures throughout the semester due to meetings and trips. His powerpoints are only supplements to his lectures, so you cannot get away with studying without lecture notes. An easy non-lab science.

I think he's quite a snob! Either he's prejudice against undergraduates, or he just has something against me from Day 1. Either way, I find approaching him very intimidating, not because of his work, but because of his behavior/communication.

If you are fresh out of high school, who have been studying hard for those AP science classes for the college admission, go ahead and take this class while your science knowledge is still fresh in your memory. His exams are tricky. He is way too smart for this intro-level class, and you will never know what to just 'understand' and what to memorize

GREAT PROFESSOR! i had no interest in this class, and he made it so much fun (and interesting!) the class is 3 exams, and a cumulative final-- you will need to study for these, but as long as you go to class and study at least the night before you'll be fine (also going to his office hours is a GOOD IDEA)

Prof. Murray is the best professor I have had at BU-he is intelligent, funny, passionate, and makes the topic interesting and fun. Readings are helpful but not absolutely necessary to do well-just go to class, take good notes, and study for the three exams and final. If you can take this class, do it - I'm not an NS major, but this class was my fav

Prof. Murray is an awesome teacher. He is really funny. He keeps the interest of the class and teaches a lot of information without it getting boring. This class was not difficult but since there are only 3 exams you do need to study. Everything on the test is directly from lecture so as long as you take notes you will be fine.

Fantastic guy who knows his field and is willing to teach a class full of people who mostly don't care. Great teacher and thinker - funny and organized. Don't expect dumb questions to be taken well, though, because he rightly won't answer them well.

Rick is one of my favorite profs. I took this class just for fun and I am not a science person. His lectures are on powerpoint and are very clear and interesting. He explains things very well. His tests are challenging but there are no surprises. Take Oceanography.

Murray made class as interesting as possible. Very available, very cool and a down to earth guy. Take this class if you can, but don't take if you aren't gonna study. Be forewarned, the tests are kind of tough, so study and you'll do fine.

while class wasn't as easy as expected, it wasn't difficult. he was hilarious and made talking about the chemical formula of water interesting. very good at answering questions, he compiles everyone's questions and emails the answers to the whole class
