Extremely helpful. A kind and helpful lady. She's very funny and really cares that her students learn the language. I highly suggest her if you're planning to take Japanese. She teaches JPN1 AND JPN2, so sign up :) We had an end of the quarter party too. It was fun.

I had her for JPN 2 and JPN 113. For both her classes, I could say she is a good instructor that explains things pretty well. But her quizzes and tests are difficult to score good, and doing bad on one quiz could easily hurt your final grade. Very helpful, motherly, and wants her students to learn. I recommend her, and you must take her for JPN 113

shigeyama sensei is amazing! i came into the class late and she helped me catch up. she's really helpful and is a funny and cute little lady. i understood the material very well. i'm sad she's not teaching jpn 3 next quarter.

Shigeyama-sensei was a very good teacher for me. She is extremely helpful, and she really wants you to understand. I HIGHLY recommend her for Japanese Language study!!! I hope to have her again. So if you get the chance, choose a JPN 1 or JPN 2 section with her.

She really cares how well her students are doing, which is so refreshing! Class is definitely really difficult, you have to keep up and it's very fast-paced. It's obvious that she spends a lot of time trying to come up with activities that will be helpful. She's an excellent teacher.

Any language class can be intimidating if you're not prepared...duh!She is very helpful and suggests things that can help you if your lacking in listening or other areas. She is also a teacher that will let you know when you needed to step it up. Most teachers just keep there mouth shut and don't care if you fail. She cares about her students.

shigeyama sensei really favors. if she likes you, she will often use you to be the example in the class. if she doesn't, then you'll struggle poorly. i was among one of those whom she didn't like and she picked on me. make sure you prepare for class each day well. she really emphasizes on being prepared for class.
