Chavez is a great teacher. She really cares for her students and is really flexible and accommodating if you want help. She's very willing to help and makes herself really available. I'd highly recommend her if you want to learn Japanese, as we do go through material pretty fast.

She knows how to relay the subject well to English speakers and is always willing to help or get you a tutor. She is fair in her grading and always tells you exactly what yo expect on tests so just study what the study guide says.

She's very japanese, very polite, and always willing to help. Course is relatively easy. Memorizing hiragana & katagana in the begining can be somewhat painful but if you practice enough you'll do fine. My class mates are really fun people so the class is often pretty fun as well. Everybody grew quite close to eacher because of the daily meeting.

Prof Chavez is very patient and flexible when it comes to her students and teaching class. Class can be kind of boring but is well structured; which makes it easy to do well if you keep pace with the class. Take her class if you have a choice in instructors (and avoid Uchida’s at all cost, the difference is night/day in ease/clarity/helpfulness)

Overall, a very solid teacher. She's not as clear as I'd like when it comes to grammar points, and she tends to rush through kanji, but other than that her class is perfectly fine. Chavez's tests can be pretty challenging and her class at times felt like constant speaking practice, but if anything, this should actually persuade you to take her.

Amazing instructor. Extremely dedicated. very "Japanese" while connecting to her students. Highly recommended. Warning: lots of work, but worth it to learn the language. There is no easy way to approach this class, but it is a good class.

This is my FAVORITE class, hands down. You WILL have fun, learn a ton, and make friends. During the first few weeks, you will probably work your butt off trying to memorize the Hiragana, since she uses it in class everyday. She is a GREAT teacher; don't secondguess taking her class.

Chavez-sensei has been an absolute blast. Helpful, informative, and not particularly intimidating, as some language teachers can be. I HIGHLY recommend her to anyone looking to learn Japanese. Chavez-sensei wa ichiban ii sensei desuyo.

She is so kind, fun and never gets angry. Learning japanese is so interesting because of her. This is the best class I have ever taken in UCD. The class atmosphere is always happy. You will gain incredible friendship with Chavez sensei as well as your classmates because you see them everyday!

This class was overall pretty self explanatory. As long as you attend class everyday and do the homework, you'll do fine on the test. I remember one part that was hard was the oral test, only because it was intimidating (she records you and a partner) as long as you prepare ahead of time, this class should be a breeze

Wonderful teacher! Honesty enthusiastic about teaching and does a great job transferring information while making class fun. Frequent quizzes/tests to keep everyone on their toes but they are easy if you study first. very organized.
