Could not understand what he was talking about in class, literally had to write down everything he said and dissect it later. Failed the midterm which he wrote off and somehow managed to come out of the class with a good mark. Know the main points of the readings and the q/a in class. Have no idea how I passed this course...waste of money

I barely went to class, failed the midterm and most likely the final as well and still ended up with a B. He has to be the most generous marker when it comes to essays in all of UBC.

Professor Bunn is very knowledgable, but his lessons are unfortunately very hard to follow, and his exams test very obscure details and are marked very hard.

Worst prof ever. if you want an easy A with least amount of effort. he doesn't even use a textbook rather assigned readings. and if you take his phil. of religion you don't even need to show up for class except for the important dates ie first day papers and finals. If you do go to class he mumbles and mutters through the entire lecture

Honestly he is the worst teacher I have ever seen or imagined. Boring beyond belief, his droning and tangents reduce the most interesting of subject matter to mush. I attended 3 classes and got an A-. Highly recommended if you need an easy grade and don't want to actually learn anything. He needs to retire and EVERYONE knows it. Stay away.

Bunn's a nice guy and his exams are pretty fair. But man, his lectures are grueling! Way too muddled and listless. He inspired almost zero participation, and his handouts are just a hot mess of quotations. Look, I love the subject matter and I got something out of the course, but I can't credit ANY of it to Bunn's teaching skills. Not recommended.

He is the worst professor I have ever had. He has no office hours, he has no email, his office phone has no voice mail and he never is there to pick it up. He listed the wrong office number on the course syllabus! He was impossible to contact outside of class. As for the lectures, he was usually late, and utterly boring, with little interaction

This is how bad his droning is: He offers open book mid-exam and a partially open book final. But he is VERY hard to follow. Like, I have no trouble with almost every other teacher. I think it's a combination of rambling, and his soft spokenness and his trailing off. Unless you cope well with very slow classes, I would NOT recommend.

It was really hard to sit through his entire class without falling asleep. He was interesting if you could stay awake. Unfortunately the TA he had didn't show his face until the last couple weeks of classes and was 15 minutes late to the final exam. The TA didn't even give a reason why he gave everyone terrible grades.

First half of the class was good and textbook was excellent. But the second half he used the class to indoctrinate instead of educate. The textbook looked at both sides of the argument, but when the prof did his own thing he only presented the information he agreed with and if he ever presented the side it was from a weak source not worth thetime

Although he knows his stuff really well, it really depends on your self-motivation to get you through the course. There was no usage of a whiteboard or lecture slides - he would just talk (can be very dry sometimes). But he's very approachable and helpful! If you attend his lectures and do the readings (which aren't very long), you'll do well.

The most enthusiastic professor at UBC. Genuinely loves the subject matter, and has as he has been contemplating philosophy since high school. He will do everything in his power to help you get a complete grasp of the material.

Worst Prof ever. I know how to take notes, I go to class but this one was unbearable. I came out with a B but I dont know how. I knew nothing on the final because I finally gave up on class. He is soooo boring and needs to retire. This class has so much potential but he ruined any interest I had in the subject

He is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the topic. But he speaks so incomprehensibly and he has gotta put more effort in the course (the exams and assignments were graded like they've been made in 1 minute or something). In short, if u want a good grade with boring class, go ahead. Oh, dont expect him to help u much, he doesnt even have an email

Robert Bunn is definitely very knowledgeable on Religion and has a great passion towards the subject. However, he needs to improve on his lectures. If you have ever taken Dominic Lopes or Bradley Murray, you will see how even much less interesting topics can be made more interesting than religion. This course has potential, just needs presentation.

Enjoyable class, definatly got better as time went on, the last lectures were the best. It really comes down to the class structure, as Religion is a touchy subject, there's a high chance of peers who like to interrupt lecture (daily!) to inject their opinions. If you're lucky enough to avoid them, and the lecture finishes, it's great,Great Handout

Hard call- nice prof, semi-interesting subject matter, hard to follow along for me (limited PHIL background), if you have a moderate Philosophy background and like Nietzsche, it's a good choice. Overall, not spectacular, but not horrible. Not easy, but not hard.

nobody seems to understand the concept of taking notes. teacher talks, you write. if you just sit there and stare blankly ahead of you, then yes, you will be bored. this is philosophy. duh. (i had never actually taken phil before this, but i assume phil courses are all pretty boring).

I think most people struggle with bunn because they dont do the readings/are too stupid, so they arent interested in in-depth critical analysis. But he is so knowledgeable, and kinda funny in a subtle way. good class if you actually care about learning. you can reach him by calling his house, though i've never tried. he's old, but he's alright.
