Content wise the class is well put together. However, I really didn't like his lectures. Dreaded them. He is passionate about the subject, but he doesn't know how to speak well. His grading and exams weren't particularly fair either.

Bob is hands down the best professor I've had. In FFAR he doesn't do the marking or handle the assignments so that part is irrelevant to this comment but he is adorable and his enthusiasm is contagious.

Robert has passion, that much is clear to see if you attend one of his lectures. However, his material is a bit old;he should consider updating. He tends to repeat himself a lot.Though marker,it's not enough you know the material, must have examples for in class test.

Bob is not only adorable but he is extremely passionate and even giddy about the subject matter he teaches which passes on immediately to myself as a student! He is a pleasure to have as a teacher, and although FFAR250 is notoriously unstructured and all over the place, it is fascinating and worthwhile! Bob makes this course!

Great lecturer, yet this class should not be mandatory. The final classes of the year seem unnecessary as we must work on the final paper (12-15p). Not only that, but there are no exams, so the final lectures may serve no purpose to you at all. It's interesting, yet certainly not my highest priority this semester. Your TA makes all the difference.

Comment:
Course itself is a bit directionless and pointless for a required credit, but he makes lectures an event not to be missed and is super engaging and fun. Depending on your TA the class will suck, but Gifford himself makes the lectures so entertaining and indeed informative, even if the subject matter is all over the place.

Excellent teacher! He sometimes is overcome with his own enthusiasm and digresses quite a bit, but you'll learn a lot. Took his Greek art/arch. class, and though little attention is paid to architecture, his in depth look at Greek society through their art (specifically vase painting) is well worth it!

The Greek Art History class (emphasis on sexual politics and homosexuality in particular) was fascinating. I had the pleasure of having him for FFAR 250, and now for ARTH 365. Quirky type, stutters, passionate about his subject, fun. Probably my favourite Art History prof.

Quite a character. The course itself is very broad and superficial, however the approach is interesting and intelligent. He has his own strange quirks but once you get used to them you can enjoy his knowledge and point of view. Is a bit of a Love & Peace type but that doesn't interfere with the quality of teaching.

My real criticism of this course is that it should not be required in order for fine arts students to graduate. What did I learn over a year-long period? Almost nothing. I think the course should not be a year long and that it should be a non-fine arts course because the material is too vague in order to be useful.

the lectures are useless and you don't have to attend. If you like a "love will cure the world" approach to learning then you will like this class but if you actually want some intellectual rigor that goes farther then queer politics then you are out of luck. This is a bureaucratic and useless class. 19yr olds seem to love it, the rest expect more!

Bob's class feels like a rock show, you feel like ur going to see him perform... which is appropriate for a performance arts class i suppose. The class really opened up my mind, especially about performance art practices and art made by minorities. I learnt a lot of things and again, bob is riveting to watch. Also good guest speakers.

Most entertaining lectures ever! I took this class as an elective, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very eccentric fellow, loves the arts, he gets so caught up in it he sometimes gets all flustered and loses his words! Hilarious. Very fair, he'll give you many chances, he wants you to succeed! He allowed me to write a makeup midterm to take-home!
