He's the only prof at EMU COB that your going to learn anything from. He expects you to read the material to be able to understand his lectures. Basically the only professor at EMU that gives you a U of M Ross experience. If you want to actually understand finance and do well in future classes I recommend him highly. If not, don't.

There's a disconnect between the lectures, the homework (Pearson online) and the tests. The class does take some effort and hard work, but what everyone's failed to mention is that if you have problems, visit his office hours. HE IS EXTREMELY HELPFUL. It's not an easy class, but this is college, so sometimes you have to put in a little more effort.

T1 C+ and T2 B+. In position where if I get a 100 on T3 I still end up with an 89.x%. He's ok but my philosophy has been: "go to class + do homework + study = earn an A". I did all that and will end with a B or B+. Barely anyone gets As on tests(MC + essay) even though we study and go to class. Not hard tests; just hard to get an A on them.

To further elaborate regarding exams. Homework is a damn breeze, class is a breeze, I'm pretty savvy in finance. Ok. So lecture and homework you are learning how to calculate book value of equity, or market value of equity. Then you get the test and 1 of 3 essay questions is "calculate the ENTERPRISE value of equity!" LOL. Strange, no?

The guy is very organized. Assigns homework and explains every last detail. That being said, just like the guy below stated, 1 terminology in the lecture, different word in homework, different word on test! It's idiotic. U learn about net assets in class, gross assets appears in homework, then fixed assets (brand new term) is on test!

The prof was nice, though he had a somewhat dry personality, & could be a little scattered at times. He answered emails quickly & was very helpful with questions. The tests were hard, but if you read the book & try out the practice problems, you should do decent. Try to do the best you can on homework assignments; saved my grade!

Driest professor I've ever had (this is coming from an ACC major). Mumbles and never appeared motivated to teach. He hand picked the text for class and did nothing but bash it throughout the semester. Exams do not correlate with vocabulary or material in book. If you really try then you will survive. I would never recommend. Good luck.

I thought he was a good teacher but most in the class did not. The biggest problem was he would use one terminology in class, the book would use another and he would use something different on the exam. His presentation of the material made it seem straight forward but i felt lost on the exam. Don't be shy ask questions he likes to help.

If you want to learn relevant information, be held accountable, and learn to think; he is your man. If you are just looking to piss away 1,600 or so bucks, learn nothing, and coast to an A, forget it.

Unless you love finance algebra and calculus do not take this prof. Horrible lectures. Tests (12 MC 3-4 problems) are unnecessarily difficult considering this is an intro class. Plan on randomly guessing 3-4 MC. Write something for each problem--he will give you some points.

AVOID this guy like the plague. Scatter brained and jumps from topic to topic. Never reviews exams so you really don't know what you did wrong. Lectures have no clear direction and ignores questions from students in class. AVOID AVOID AVOID!

Lectures are unintelligible. Questions are either ignored or rudely answered. Homework in the book has nothing to do with the test. Mainly because he likes to add "innovations" to the material which are not mentioned in the book. Tests are incredibly difficult and consists of 2 S.A. and 4-5 problems. Doesn't review tests. Not recommended. AVOID!!!

Concentrate on the class from the beginning and you will be okay in the end. The subject matter is rather difficult and once you get past the bore of it all you really do see a pretty good teacher. Make sure you do everything you can for this class, hardest class ive taken yet and worst grade ive had. CONCENTRATE FROM BEGINNING!

Tough, very strange, but a very good proff. He makes hilarious comments that he doesnt realize are. His tests are difficult, and you HAVE to do all the problems over and over to do well on his exams. Overall, he is just a weird guy.

He is very unorganized. Would work through a problem for the first time on the board- erasing and trying to figure it out- very difficult to take notes when it seemed like he was unsure himself. Exams are heavily weighted- if you're a good test taker you will do well!

Strange guy. but overall a good teacher. He makes you think about the cases, but won't spoon feed you the information so you need to know your stuff. There is a lot of work for this class but its do able.

Sometimes in an organization, you need to be more applied and flexible in your approach - there isn't a right answer for most Bruner cases. Hanson pushes the student towards pure financial theory over practical application (if the guideline from the approval board says include something, you include it). Students seem ill-prepared for the class.

Dr. Hansen is strange. Seems always not prepared, and it is very hard to concentrate on him. Basically, if you take class with him you are going to do selfstudy! Make sure you read the book, do hw assigned on the syllabus (the one he does not check but posts the answers for) Most of this stuff is on his exams!!!
