He gives very clear directions on his papers and you have to follow them exactly. If you follow the directions well and work hard, you will get a good grade. He is a stickler for word count but in the end it makes you a better writer because you learn how to be clear and concise. Very nice man. Again, do what he says for essays and you will be OK.

Per usual this FYS was the most work out of my schedule. His classes are quick, primarily consisting of discussion. For homework, however, he fills your week up expecting you to watch 4 hours of a documentary while reading a book or writing an essay. His grading is the toughest part. He has very specific expectations and cares a lot about word #.

this class is HORRIBLE! 4 papers which are all pretty easy, but the homework is ridiculous and there is a quiz on it almost every class. I have to study for this class more than I do for Organic chemistry which is ridiculous. He also is a stickler for word count. A 900 word paper is easily edited down to 600 words due to his abbreviations.

He tells you exactly what he expects. Assignments have clear word limits and clear objectives. Follow them, and meet with him, and you will get an A. Dont listen, and you will be severely punished.

This is the most frustrating professor I have ever had. Talks about nothing the entire class and grades you on the most irrelevant things like word count (down to the exact word) and irrelevant citations. Dreaded going to class, sweet man but definitely not worth taking. I learned close to nothing and was bored to tears. God a bad grade for nothing

This guy is unnecessarily pompous even though he doesn't reserve the right to be. He is an incredibly frustrating professor, simply grading papers not on the material but on how many words you used. He harps on this time and time again when he himself rants for ages about useless nonsense that frequently just isn't correct information. Avoid him.

Kenzer started off okay but then just got progressively worse. He is extremely picky with his grading and and assigns a lot of reading for his 200 level classes. He gives overly thorough directions and expects you to follow them to a T, or else. He endlessly repeats in class what he has already sent in emails which is very irritating.

He is really mean to students and extremely pompous. He stresses people out way more than he should. He will interrupt you a lot and be really mean to you but if you don't actually talk in class (notecards don't count for participation & he doesn't rly tell u this) you will have a really bad grade. Not enough space here but do not take him.

I missed over a third of the classes and managed a solid B in participation, but that, combined with the fact that I never submitted drafts, affected how he graded my papers. He teaches the valuable skill of succinct expression, but oftentimes can't embody that himself in class as he rambles on about nonsense, cutting off students. Full of himself.

Civil War and Reconstruction class: PARTICIPATE!! You get only a few chances to get participation grades each year. If you participate the maximum of 4 times each time, you will get an A for participation. This is an interesting class, and he teaches well, especially the battles of the war. He makes it all clear, and the books make sense/ are used.

His seminar was easy but reallllllly boring. You don't have to do the reading if you can bs, participation is huge. You watch a bunch of movies in class, there are 4 papers but one's optional and if you submit drafts he'll basically grade your paper before you turn it in. I dreaded going to class every day though

CIVIL WAR. the WORST class ive EVER taken in my ENTIRE LIFE. kenzer lectures the whole class. if you ask a question he gives you a point, thus, everyone asks dumb questions. an ABSURD amount of reading. EXTREMELY particular with papers. unless youre obsessed with the civil war, DONT TAKE IT. my gpa and all other classes have suffered because of it

I took his Licoln course and it wasn't that great for an into course. I really like him as a professor... I just think that the course it self is way to specific for a 100 level. Kenzer really knows what he is talking about... but he is extremely anal and class participation is mandatory. Not a blow off class. 2 papers, 2 tests (1 optional), &final

I took this class for an 'easy A.' It isn't one. If you're just looking to fulfill your gen ed. in history, look elsewhere. kenzer is very specific, wants his papers exactly his way, there is a ton of reading and absurd amount of tests/papers for an introductory course.

Kenzer is fantastic, truly an asset to the University. One of best profs I've taken. Students are big on Treadway but Kenzer is the best HIST professor. Ultra-clear in expectations & incredible amount of effort put in helping students. Funny, good guy, insanely knowledgeable, the reason I want to go to grad school for HIST. Take him!

Civil War in Film and Lit was the best history class I've ever taken. I mean you watch movies in class every time your class meets you barely read any books. I loved tests b/c it was online, on your own time during the weekend, and open note. Participation was a little forced because of the point system he set up, but it was still a great class!

Class participation is a huge part of your grade, and consequently, if you have quality comments he likes you more. Kind of reminds me of Santa, but stubborn (Harvard grad). Wants papers to be written HIS way EXACTLY, which is annoying but not too difficult. Very willing to help and checks his email every hour, it seems. Manageable A.

prof. kenzer is a really nice guy and tries to make himself as useful to his students as possible however i really cant stand his class because he's doing what he has to in teaching hist. 100 students the basics of writing document analysis papers and it gets annoying as hell.
