Comment:

Martin is one of the best professors at UofR. Although Arabic is a tough language to learn, he explains everything very well and he is accessible outside of class for extra help. Even though he helps students a lot, he expects you to make an effort as well. He treats us like adults, so he really appreciates when students are responsible.

Comment:

It's Arabic, so it's not exactly a walk in the park, but Martin does a good job explaining and reexplaining as needed. Deadlines/attendance are more guidelines than rules, but if you don't try, don't expect to pass. If you want to learn Arabic, take Martin, but take the class seriously. He makes it as easy as possible, but that isn't an easy A.

Martin was the best language teacher I've ever had! He really cared about our understanding of the topic and was always available for extra help. He allows re-takes on tests and quizzes that you don't do well on, so everyone gets a good grade

Very easy. Very nice. Very clear. You will like him. And if you ever need help with anything he will help you. He also teaches very interesting classes in English sometimes, and is one of the best facilitators of discussion out there. Very impressive professor. Among the top professors at this university, I think.

Martin is a great guy...it's too bad that I did not feel prepared enough to take German 202 next semester. If he were going to be teaching it, I would take it, but it was just so much material and none of it sunk in. He just couldn't really connect. The tests and exam were take home though, so that was nice.

What a great guy, but i wish he were strickter in class so that people learned more. Gives lots of extra credit, so if u get above 70% on everything, thats an A. Makes you like the language even though its not an easy one.But does not prepare you for 201 well since it gets much harder

Oh martin... Honestly one of the best german teachers i've ever had. when you get back his tests its literally a sea of red but takes off maybe a half point for mistakes. definitely my favorite class here. study for vocab but not for too long.. theres no need. exams are easy if you have a grasp on the language and pay attention in class.

Such a jolly guy. The intro arabic class was very, very easy... you hardly had to do homework, and weekly vocab quizzes were bearable. All tests and exams are take-home and even though they're hard, they're not timed and you can collaborate with classmates. Easy class, GREAT teacher. Highly recommended overall.

He is just a great person in general. Really cares about his students. If you feel he is moving to fast, you can just talk to him about it and he will slow down. Always willing to help. Good with live advice. Again, amazing professor! Like a fun uncle; you sometimes just want to hug him.

Nicest teacher I've ever had, and is good at explaining things so they are understandable. If anything his classes are almost too easy; he's so lenient with grades that his class sometimes will take a backseat to more demanding courses. If you want to learn a language, and can work without needing someone to watch over you, take his class.

Martin is the nicest guy and most enjoyable professor. First class ever that I look forward to going and am sad when I have to leave. He cares more about us learning the material than anything else and makes grading such that worrying about grades never interferres with class or the subject in general.

Martin is so nice! The only homework is a weekly summary of what you talked about in class, which he lets you correct and turn in super late. He can be a bit unclear when assigning projects but he answers e-mails quickly and is always willing to help. His class is sometimes boring but he never tests you on the material so that's a plus!
