Comment:
Robert seems like a decent enough guy but it's clear that he doesn't even want to be teaching anymore. He never talks to the class, just jumps right into a very dry and monotone lecture for each class and is out the door before the students are. Tests are extremely hard, you really have to prepare far in advance. I wouldn't take him again.

I was extremely disappointed with this professors teaching style. He is very hard to listen too due to his monotone voice and his PowerPoint lectures are hard to follow . He gave me zero feedback on my midterm essay questions and when I spoke to him about it, requesting feedback, He claimed he had too many students to give feedback to each.

Dr. Lanning really is a great professor! Whoever says he doesn't know what he's talking about must not of even taken his class because he is probably one of the most knowledgeable teachers at this school. He is truly devoted to teaching and he manages to make politics and economics seem interesting and relatable. Most classes are lectures.

He's a great person, but sometimes the lectures can get a bit tedious to sit through. Sometimes the notes he uses are unclear, but he has no problem if you need clarification or help outside of class time. He does not accept late assignments! Work must be handed in on time or its 0%.

Excellent prof, but you MUST do all the readings, attend all the classes and work hard. The mixed reviews are explained if you look at the level of the student: first-years complain, 3rd/4th years love him.

Whoever said this guy didn't want to teach has an axe to grind. He is terrific. Clearly dedicated to student learning and progress. Wish all my profs were as smart, and as helpful.

Awful, told us he didn't even want to teach anymore. None of the readings related to in class discussions. Rambeled during class about useful knowledge. Did not seem to care about what he was talking about, nor did he seem to have a desire for teaching- I got the impression (honestly) he was just there for the pay cheque...

At first I disliked Robert because I found him a hard marker and hard to understand, however, the intro to SOAN is a year long and by the end of the course I loved him. He's a hard marker, and yes, you have to actually read the required readings to understand what he is talking about in his lectures. Robert Lanning challenged me and was helpful.

Dr. Lanning is an amazing prof, you learn a LOT from him. He marks very difficulty for an intro class, you will use the textbooks and need to go to the lectures. That being said, I would absolutely take a class from Dr. Lanning again.

I found Dr Lanning very difficult to comprehend. With the books he tends to read all at once, bouncing around from one to another. His testing style is strictly memorization and regurgitation, with no comprehension. I have yet to learn anything in this class. Because of this I would not take him again, and would not recomend him.

I think he is a great prof. I think his material may be a bit advanced for a first year student, but I, myself, as a third year student, find his lectures VERY easy to follow, and his tests are more about memorization than application. I honestly think he has the best intentions when it comes to his students. I recommend him.
