Awesome prof. Very good mix of lecturing and class discussion/interaction. The tests were fairly easy and the grading was fair as well. I learned a lot during this class and would recommend to all.

Jarvis Brownlie is hands down one of the best prof's at the U of M. He's kind, approachable and goes out of his way to help his students. He's not the easiest marker in the world, but gives clear feedback and wants all his students to succeed. I highly recommend taking a class with him.

I had Dr. Brownlie for the first half of a full year course, and was very impressed. Dr. Brownlie was very approachable, gave informative lectures, and had clear grading criteria. Although there was a fair amount of reading assigned, all readings were valuable and carefully selected. I would highly recommend Dr. Brownlie to U of M history students.

Professor Brownlie is very knowledgeable in the subjects he teaches. Patient with students and very engaging. Round tables are great ways to guage others opinions on the topics we discussed. Marking was hard but not unfair. Heavy reading but it was interesting material. If you`re not serious about History or want an easy class. This is not for you.

Jarvis is clear in her explanations and very helpful when answering questions. The group discussions require a bit of reading, but are informative and fun (easy marks). Classes are lecture based, which can sometimes become dry. She has an overall great personality and joy when conducting the class. I'd recommend her to anyone, minus first years.

I think it would have been a good course, but I had to withdraw after about a month, I was just too busy and adjusting to my new family situation (death of my mom). I liked the round circle approach used in a lot of the classes, there were a LOT of readings required, but they were interesting.

She is one of the best profs I've had so far. I consider people taking her classes. She is well organized and everything. The assignments are great and the notes, although the fonts can be a bit small, but it's still good.
