Comment:
I took his evening fiction class, and aside from slight difficulties in alertness, had quite a good time. His lectures are informative and coherent, and he's got a wonderfully melodious voice (which may contribute to aforementioned sleepiness). Knows the books backward to front and adept at conveying his knoweldge, highly recommended.

Good choice of books, interesting topic. However, the lectures were rather tedious, as he tends to dissect things to the point of absurdity. Easy class to get an A in even without reading the books, as long as you repeat his words in the paper and the final. Nice voice and very pleasant to deal with, though.

A super terrific prof. Really, really knows his stuff and is willing to share his vast knowledge with students. A lot of students in his class are really lazy and generally not very bright but he really makes an effort to make the readings meaningful.

The guy below hit the nail on the head--he's obviously super intelligent, and the books are interesting, but his lectures just drone on and on--in a class of 20 people, there is no discussion or interaction--just him talking at us for three hours!!!

What can I say, good readings but this guy made me want to run screaming because he is so boring as a lecturer. There is no doubt however, that he is a very intelligent man.

Loved the reading list, the novels chosen were great reads. His voice is very low & he sits down to lecture which, combined, can help you with a nap. I always left at break. Fair marker, don't expect an A unless you're an English major & that's a maybe b/c you have to work for it. The other negative: his interpretations are the "correct" ones. B-

I took him for two English courses in one semester and he was very boring, tedious, and overly ambitious with his reading schedule. However he is very helpful and quite a fair marker. Plus, for the evening classes, he always let us go way earlier than we were supposed to.

BORING BORING BORING AND BORING....he's seriously the most boring person you will ever have as your lecturer, books he chose were interesting to read, understood his lecture, but his voice, oh god, if you have insomnia, take his class, and you'll be cured, got an A in his class, but it doesn't matter, i still wouldn't take his class again

From my experience, its only the pseudo-sutdents who complain about Robin. The serious students think he's great, even those who don't always agree with his interpretations! His lectures are excellent. I got lower marks with him because I didn't have a good grasp of the subject matter. A year later I took another course with him and loved it.

Recommendation - never take the course. Boring and lacks focus. If you enjoy reading 100 essays about Palestine and various issues then by all means be my guest.

Robin is awesome! He doesn't rely on any of that wishy-washy filler, but instead delivers the goods in a cogent and insightful manner. Robin's idea of a lecture is, in fact, the definition of a lecture. That is, he speaks and the students listen. Seems pretty clear to me.

Boring! His idea of a lecture is to talk at us for three hours. Doesn't take attendance and we don't do anything in class so I wonder how he grades our participation. Don't know how hard he marks yet. He might be clear but I don't know because I (and the rest of the class) am staring blankly ahead drooling.

He tends to repeat words over and over again, and re-iterates things often (hinting that it's an important point). His voice is ok. A nice prof. May want to watch out for his sophisticated vocab.

It's obvious he loves what he does and it's great to see a professor who is interested in his work. Even for a first year course, he didn't try to dumb down the content, or make students feel inadequate. Great book choices, but his voice is so soothing that it constantly put me to sleep. Lectures=A+

my favorite professor - he understands what teaching should be, and never wastes time with anecdotes or irrelevent multimedia. friendly, organized, and a fair marker. i would not recommend his class to those not already interested in the subject matter, but to the rest he is fantastic.

He was obviously interested and enjoyed the subject, and his notes were very clear and straightforward, however, he has such a monotone that one cannot help but drift off to sleep occasionally.
