Comment:
She has really messy slides that are hard to follow. Mostly screenshots. Going to class actually makes you more confused about the already difficult topic. Very easy to get lost in her explanation of things.

Knows GIS quite well and has worked in the GIS field for numerous years. Teaching skills are terrible. Spends lots of time talking about personal anecdotes which do not even relate to helping understand concepts and material better. Slides are incredibly disorganized. What is expected to learn was not made clear. Try to avoid if possible

Comment:
The framework of this course is useful for student development. Half of it is co-developed with a master student. TAs are hired for this course teaching codes. The theoretical parts can be more engaging. Marking very fair to arts student learning codes. but I feel like the lecturer did some preferential treatment to some students sometimes..

Did very well in the labs, and generally I knew how to use GIS better than my peers. However, expect horribly specific questions on exams, with no feedback on why you got a certain mark on a question. Expect questions like "who developed the first GIS, in what year." Useless for actually learning how to use GIS, with semantics. Nearly failed.

Expect to do well in the labs, but terribly on the exams... Study EVERYTHING - the exams couldn't be more random.

This class clearly lacks any structure or planning. W/what we actually learn each day, classes can be shortened to 15 minutes. Many of the lectures are vague and lack direction. A lot of it is just general knowledge making it difficult to prepare for exams. Exam instructions were unclear. She needs to give us actual material, not pix and stories

Not as interesting as I thought it would be. She brings in tons of guest lecturers without clear purpose. It seems that she wants to make each student an urban planner. Not too clear what she expects from students ; the assignment guidelines were incredibly short. Textbook pretty much useless. You'll be expected to read it on your own.

Honestly, Sally's quite nice and approachable. But sadly I thought the course could stand to be restructured slightly. I felt that while I learned quite a lot through the term, I had no idea how to "correctly" answer the final exam questions. Think a midterm exam might put things into perspective. And the readings were hardly as helpful as FTs.

Sally is clearly an expert in her field and shows her passion for GIS. However, she is very unapproachable and does not care about her students. I was away for a week due to a death in the family, and even though I notified her right away that I would miss a lab, I got a 0 that she refused to change. She also does not always reply to her emails.

Sally is really nice and helpful and her lectures are clear. Her final exam however was insanely hard and didn't really reflect all that we learned in lab or class...study hard because its tough!!! A lot of work, the labs are long, the project hard. But its rewarding because you learn a lot.

easy class . she is ok, in love with her kerrisdale and her house. that was so silly to listen to her talk about her , her house, her family... give us a break, there is more to vancouver than that neighbourhood.

In this course, she lectures about sustainability and environmental concerns, yet contradicts these principles in her daily life all the time (she told us many examples herself, including course related instances). Not very receptive to questions either. At least the final was insanely easy, even for someone who didn't read any of the CCM.

Sally is a great prof! She is clear, concise, knowledgeable & v. helpful w/ any questions you might have! However, while she is a great teacher, she is also a hard marker. If there's anything you're not 100% sure about, I advise you to talk to her during office hours. There's no such thing as BSing your way though her class.

Sally is one of the best lecturers in the department. She is clear, consise, and provides a clear general understanding of GIS. She shows a passion for GIS, and brings great real world experience into the course. She brings the social aspect of GIS into the course and many of her students have had success in GIS after graduating. Marking is fair.

Thinks her class is much harder than it is, a lobotomized monkey would do well in her 270 class. Also despite what she says you'd need a masters in GIS or a bachelors in cartography and the 2 year course from BCIT to get even an entry level job using GIS.
