Comment:
His lectures are races to catch up, taking notes is incredibly difficult and he tries to cram two lectures of material into a single lecture and frequently starts a new topic AFTER the lecture has ended The homeworks are ridiculously hard and there are too many of them. I easily worked 30 HOURS A WEEK for JUST THIS CLASS on average.

Professor Young is a great guy and genuinely wants you to do well in the class if you care about it. This was one of my favorite classes at UMass because after taking MATH235 this class answers lots of those "why" and "what is it for" questions I had and what you learn is powerful. You do have to put in a lot of work but I think it's worth it.

Comment:
Robin covers more in-depth calculus than what is probably required, so the course is hard even for people with prior calculus experience. Covers more theory than examples which are usually much easier than test questions. Tests are short but require very long-winded answers. Practice tests really help, even if they are easier than the actual exam.

He's always late to class and makes a lot of mistakes with notes, but he's a really nice guy. Gave us only 6 homework assignments and 1 test. The stuff is hard, but if you show up to class and do all the homework you'll pass.

Robin is a nice guy, but he lectures so fast and more about theories than practical uses. Confused even those who have taken calculus before. We sometimes worked on examples in class, but we never knew what to expect on tests, even though he gave us practice exams. Difficult exams. Put concepts we've never seen on the final. Strange grading scale.

This is the first time I've left a bad review but, he goes so fast that you don't have time to write anything down. Office hours fell when most of us had another class, changed the grading system mid way through the semester, and has never returned a graded assignment to us. So the textbook is awful, he's awful, and we have no idea how we're doing.

He went over material in a really fast pace so get ready to take a lot of notes and focus in class. He explains stuff better during his office hours and he is a really nice guys. He always tries to help you and he definitely does not anyone to fail. The material is somewhat challenging but it is manageable. His exams are fair.

Comment:
The test questions were always much harder than the quizzes, suggested problems from the book, or the practice tests. He gave an hour and a half for six questions, and the majority of the class was there til the end. Lectures are often more theoretical than practical, with some practice problems. He'd usually fill the board 3 or 4 times per class.

Dr. Young was a great professor. He seems intimidating at first, but if you make the effort to get to know him, you'll find that he's a really cool guy. Generous grader, and rewards kids who put in the effort (and severely punishes those that don't). A truly inspirational professor. I highly recommend his class.

Robin is a great guy and means well, he is incredibly intelligent. But he cared very little about his lower level classes like this one and is just not a fantastic teacher. Incredibly confusing, impossible tests.

He's a great guy, and he is incredibly intelligent. The only problem is he almost made things more confusing. The majority of the people in the class had already taken calc I before, and he still managed to confuse us.

There is not much to say for his classes exept for "Yes?" and "Louder" which you will be repeating long after you're out of the class. He was out to make things much more difficult than they needed to be. If you have a good handle on Calc 2 then you will be well off since he likes incorportaing the hardest parts of that course instead of actual DEs

worst teacher i've ever seen. He does not care nor have time for us, at least in DiffEqs. He isn't clear, doesn't use examples, and tests are nothing like homework. avoid this guy as best you can

I had this professor for two classes, and he is very unorganized. His exams are nothing like the homework problems, but he does give a practice exam which is pretty close. Go to class every day, it is not mandatory, but if he sees you in class everyday, you will get NOTHING lower than a C, I promise. He doesn't believe in failing students who try.

Moderately difficult class...Prof. Young was helpful in office hours (and through email) if you needed homework help. Tests are very fair (gives practice exams), homework is very lengthy but doable.
