Professor Yun is an engaging lecturer, though he tends to skip derivations and details that make the content actually noteworthy. Questions beyond the scope of the surface-level class are not entertained. The exams are take-home and take more than twice the allotted 4 hours. Some answers online, which often lowers grades of honest students.

Comment:

He's not really clear, his classes aren't really easy, and he's not that helpful but he's still a really cool professor. He really inspires you in class and he's funny. He also rewards people who ask questions so always ask questions. However, one warning: Do not nod your head in class if you aren't paying attention. Just trust me.

I absolutely despise him. He makes it very hard for off-campus students to do well in class. He has multiple things due after breaks and he is extremely sarcastic/condescending in his approach to dealing with students. Tests are easy and he could be pretty amusing in class. Maybe if I was a UMass student, I'd see him in a different way.

Astro 100 with min is not easy but its def possible to get an A by going to class, doing the Owl homeworks, and studying before exams. The class average for exams is like 60% but he scales them a lot. Like from a 60 to a 90. Def. prepare for tests because they're not easy but common sense can help you a lot too if you have no clue!!

You need to go to this class to log into your prs but class is incredibly boring except for the few classes where he does examples and blows stuff up. Not the greatest class unless your really interested in sciencey stuff.

In class quiz everyday for attendance... 4 exams (keep your best 3) which account for 70% of your grade... 10% is OWL pre-lecture quiz, another 10% on Homeworks on OWL, and another 10% on APOD (Easy assignment where you describe a scientific picture)... He drops your lowest 3 pre-lecture quizzes as well as your 3 lowest in-class quizzes (absenses)

Great class, great teacher. Everyone who is saying bad things about him are saying that just because they are lazy, and must be used to teachers treating them like children. Put in the effort, and you'll learn a lot and do well. Yun's jokes make class really fun.

He is very helpful and empathetic and tries hard to get you to enjoy the class! He wants to see you succeed. He also makes the class interesting with lots of demonstrations and jokes. Do the reading and all the HW and pay attention in class and everything will be fine.

Min Yun is awesome. He tries really hard to get his students interested in astronomy, and he encourages getting involved in class by making jokes and such. The OWLs are easy and his class is fun. For the record, I am NOT a science geek at all, and you don't have to be either to enjoy his class.

tests are the easiest thing! easiest to prepare for.. he gives you the questions in the practice tests and he has make-ups that you can take home... if it werent for all this.. the class would be pretty hard since he can barely speak english and never covers all the material in class.. jsut know the practice tests!

He's really into Astronomy, and is very knowledgeable. Also even though some of the material is difficult, I have never seen a teacher work so hard to give his students extra credit. Let's you retake all the exams, gives tons of extra credit assignments, and has in-class quizzes which he gives you the answer to right there.

He's not a bad professor, if you stay awake and take the class seriously. He's really intelligent and knows what he's talking about, and there's always help available to you. He's more than willing to help. I'm a music major and don't know anything about science and pulled off a B in that class.

You gotta be a huge science geek to like this class. The lectures are boring and long, and extra help sessions with the professor don't help. You get graded for attendance and have pointless HW assignments. Do yourself a favor and DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!

Graded PRS so you can't miss class. Very hard tests. Guy barely speaks English. I would go to class and sleep until PRS came up. Very hard. If your going to take, then do it pass/fail because then you don't have to worry about PRS. Owls are nearly impossible.
