Comment:
I was one of Dr Tettenhorst's very first graduate students, and he was a wonderful advisor and mentor. I received my MS degree from the OSU Mineralogy department in 1968. His teachings and his manner of teaching benefitted me throughout my lifetime in engineering and teaching.

I had him over 20 years ago and went to see if he was on here..and he is...he was lousy in the 80's and the students either got A's or D's, because he was lazy and used the same tests over and over. A fewfemale students go copies of old tests from other guys in his prior classes of his and - automatically got A's somehow. Nobody understood him tho

Comment:
Someone else already mentioned that he acted like he was the guardian of the gates of geology. That was my same experience. He had his favorites although I'm not sure what made them his favorites. I personally found him to be arrogant, judgmental and cliquish. I got the impression that he thought I was an idiot.

An old fashioned professor; too few like him are left. If you are lazy, you are in really deep trouble. If you love geology, this class is utterly foundational and it would hard to find a better professor of mineralogy. If you hate geology, he'll help you discover that fast.

He felt it was his responsibility to decide who would be geologists, and if he didn't like you... you were in deep trouble. His exams bordered on comical. Mineralogy through intimidation and thinly veiled threats.
