Comment:
I feel for Pino with his health, but he never let that affect the learning. He is the best for this class as he allows free thinking on all the books. Class time was not used well, sometimes. We watched movies on the books in class. No tests, only four essays and a final. It is 2 semesters, so that is 6 books for each (12 in total).

I really liked the prof as a person and my heart goes out to him and all of his health problems. As a prof I would not want him again just because I felt I had a hard time understanding him, and he had no clarity to what he wanted in his assignments, did not answer my emails q's. Paid a lot for class and regret it.

2/3 of the class is watching movies. Dictated notes are not helpful to assignments. May as well do classwork on your own using the textbook, you will be better off. Could have been an interesting class but was not handled properly. Cancelled class often and ended term more than 2 weeks early, do not know what I paid for.

This is the worst anth prof I've ever had! He would teach for 1.5 of the 3 hours, and hardly used the textbooks or explained anything. His exams were crazy and even he admitted they contained stuff we didnt' cover. Stay away from his classes. He did seem like a really nice guy though.

Comment:
Not so great as everyone describes him here. Only his personality is great. He dictates the notes, but most of the time waaayy too fast that I only can get 1/4 of a sentence on my loose leaf, which is frustrating. 1/3 of the course is full of videos. So if you like movies dealing with aboriginal people, that's a class for you. Final is a take-home.

I LOVED this class and this professor! I recommend this class to anyone who has an open mind about the world. He does have an accent but everything he talks about is in the text and resources he offers in class. As in any class, attendance is recommended for movies and such. I wish everyone could be as influential as Prof. Pino in their teachings!!

Really short lectures. Some nights it was only 45 minutes, as opposed to 2 1/2 hours. He pretty much just read from the text. I had an older edition and it still worked fine. All you need is your textbook and a highlighter, and you're set. REALLY boring lectures. I think I had 3 canceled classes. Lots of videos. midterm 40% final 60.

I had him for a summer class and I LOVED it! I didn't only learn a lot about the subject but about all kinds of wonderful things! And he never once ended class early or cancelled it... So no need to worry about that. TAKE THE CLASS!!

I agree with the other Anthropology Student. Not only did he just lecture for 2 of the 3 hours(if we were lucky... one night it was only 45 mins), he also contradicted the textbook on exams and didn't even adjusted our midterm marks until after the final. He seems like a really nice guy but he was so unprofessional as a prof.

Very good prof. Pino is a very good prof, but is a tad difficult to understand at first. Very approachable guy, and interesting lectures make him good for Native Studies

Professor Pino was not my favourite prof. He seemed like a really great guy but what bothered me the most was that he would only lecture for maybe 2 hours a class... Which meat he didn't get through all of the material... Barely half. What am I paying for... to read the text?

Professor Pino should be given the boot. His accent is so thick that you can't understand half of what he says.

I have heard from many other people that this man is the most amazing prof ever. Perhaps it was just the class, but I found him to be absolutly horrible. Apart from only getting about 1/3 of the necessary class time (cancelled many and let us out early) this man did not know what he was talking about. I went to the academic advocate over him.
