Ahh, good ol' Roge. I will say this much, do not get on his bad side. If you show him the respect he demands and take an interest in his personal life he Is really a sweetheart. Took 2 classes with him during the same semester and found under the tough exterior is a really brilliant and compassionate man. Ps, he loves the Yankees and hates phones.

Roger. Buckley. How I miss this class. His lectures are long and rambly but he's one of the funniest professors I've ever had. Easy to get to know him if you have a sense of humor and the slightest interest in human rights or Japanese Americans or history, plus it's an easy A if you put in the work and read the books.

For a 3000 level gened requirement this was by far the easiest class I've taken at UConn! Buckley rambles a lot and you don't really learn a lot, but he's so passionate about this class and such an easy grader! 3 book report style essays (easy 100s) and one final essay that you don't need to study for. Definitely take 3531 with him!

Professor Buckley is a great guy. The class is, for the most part, pretty easy and straightforward. If you are not someone who can go with the flow and adapt, this class may not be for you. The due dates are not assigned ahead of time, but its not too bad. He learned all our names which I thought was great.

Buckley is a super nice guy and means well. His lectures, however, are all over the place and so is his grading. He repeats himself over and over again and never stays on topic. He is funny though and he normally lets you out of class early!

don't understand the negative ratings for buckley. it's true that sometimes he gets off topic and talks about irrelevant subject matter every now and then, but he is still a great professor. he is funny and not disrespectful at all. class is straightforward, just read the novels and write a critical paper. pretty easy stuff.

He is the most understanding professor here at UConn. He cares about his students and has many sarcastic comments that make the class go by really quick. I thoroughly enjoyed his material and his point of view was interesting. He always challenges students to think outside the box. Need to read novels, but they are very good. Great professor.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I am a history major, my favorite thing to learn about is History in the 20th Century, and I love learning about wars, so even though I read these reviews I thought would be safe. NO. He is rude, interrupts students, (I counted one day and the total was 15 times in one day!), and talks about everything but the actual topic.

He really likes to hear himself talk, and if you answer a question, he'll hear what he wants to hear rather than what you were trying to say. He is pretty entertaining though. Content wise, this class didn't have a massive amount, not nearly enough to warrant a full course, but with the way he talks, we didn't even get all we needed to by the end.

He was more concerned with talking about himself and his political views than Japanese internment. The amount of information I actually learned in this class about the subject could have been taught in one day. Do not take this class or any taught by him if you want to actually learn something other than his political views.

Good to talk to, but not a great professor. He has a great understanding of the material but has trouble articulating it and often goes off on tangents that have nothing to do with the topic at hand. I enjoy him as a person just not a professor

Buckley is great,if you like to argue politics and read books on war.His teaching style is horrendous however and my notes were spotty with little organization. As a history major with a 3.4 GPA I learned nothing I didn't learn in high-school and my grades fluctuated from a D to an A based on four papers and a comprehensive final.Drop the class

He is so political it is ridiculous. His TA stinks and his wife had a baby in the middle of the semester so he fell behind in grading :/. Overall, the class was ok, but not overly fantastic.

Going into this class, I was interested in learning about European History, but coming out I learned nothing. Buckley's grades are based on essays (this should be a W class), with grading having nothing to do with what happens in lecture, if he decides to teach. LOTS of work, very little reward, I would not recommend this class at all.

Interesting class topic, engaging lecturer only for the first two or three weeks. Goes off on tangents ALL THE TIME about himself and for that reason, lectures after the first few weeks are pointless. Condescending as someone prior had said and insecure about his teaching as he always seems to need assert himself. Final was on random material.

He is amazing. He is hilarious and has a lot of character. Yeah, he goes off on tangents, but I'd rather have an interesting prof that talks about where he's come from in life than a miserable, boring person who talks non-stop about crap. I'd reccommend him to everyone.

This was by far the worst class I've ever taken at UConn. The course outline would've been great had he actually taught what was on it. Going to class was literally painful. He'd constantly go off on tangents & repeat the same nonsense over & over again. Complete & utter waste of time. It is a shame that the univ. maintains such poor professors.

Makes you read historical fiction novels instead of having a text book, and then you have to write reviews on them. Never accomplishes any lecture material, and goes off on so many tangents. Not recommended.

He is so useless! When he's not reliving his travels over and over again, he's interrupting his students' responses to his questions. This man is condescending and self absorbed and it makes for a horrible learning environment. He is extremely lazy and lets his TA do all the work. Overall, he sucks. Don't take a class with him.
