Comment:

Very monotone, very dry, and a very boring subject to top it off. Lectures focus on a lot of definitions, and the readings come from novels that no one in their right mind would pick up. He's helpful to an extent, but he gets on a bit of a power trip with how subjectively he grades papers. Don't take him if you like to stay awake during lectures.

This class was one of the most boring classes I've ever had at Central. I usually never want to sleep in class, but this guy put me to sleep. This class requires reading a lot of novels and I feel that it's not a good UP class to take. Take something else.

I think hes a very nice guy and he has little hilarious jokes he slides past the class. I would recommend him just because he s very approachable and understanding.

Most boring teacher I have ever had in my 4 years at CMU. Twice I counted the times he said "um" or "uh" in the FIRST 10 MINUTES OF CLASS: one time was 141 and the second time was 120. Again, this is 10 minutes of class. He is dull, monotone, and all around boring.

He is nice, but there were quizzes every single day, which wouldn't be too bad expect if you missed a day, you'd miss that quiz AND you wouldn't be able to answer half the questions on the next quiz because they'd be questions like "Last class, Prof Hatch discussed when his wife and him did what?" Kind of ridiculous, but still a good class.

Dr. Hatch is great! I came into the class with not too much interest, but it really was a great class. Your grade is based on quizzes, exams, and papers. If you put in the effort, you'll do fine. Dr. Hatch is willing to help you whenever needed. It's a great class that I would totally recommend taking. :)

Professor Hatch isn't the most exciting professor at CMU. You are required to read quite a bit, but they are easy reads. If you go to class and understand his interpretations of the readings then the class should be a piece of cake. There are random quizzes so go to class! Overall an easy B to get a UP out of the way.

This Professor is horrible. Class is EXTREMELY BORING, I do not think he is capable of giving an A on anything... Overall hated this class, TONS of reading, and papers that you will take hours to write, and still receive poor grades on. Do not take this class for the UP, it SUCKS.

I Learned a LOT from this class. There are assignments daily and quizzes weakly. This class is a very busy class and a lot of work. Teacher is nice and helps you take awesome notes. This class has so much reading, we read 6 different books in a semester plus 20 extra different readings. lots of work, if you do it all, easay A or B.

Hatch is the best! at first u think his stories are random and useless but they actually do tie into the lesson. plus they make up the easy questions on the quizzes every class. quizzes and test are easy and hatch is supper nice. take him!

a test every class session. now, i wouldn't have cared if the class wasnt a religious class and instead we learned about the whole history of slaves and actually mostly about his life. the quizzes were 10 questions long and, no joke, half of them were about games he played in the car on long road trips.

GREAT teacher. He knows his stuff. And has experience to back his knowledge. During the Native Am. section he let us know he grew up near wounded knee. During the African Am. he let us kno tht he used to work for Jesse Jackson. Hes really interesting and prepares the class to it is interesting too. Class is mandatory and i didnt mind.

You've all got to be kidding me. He's not "bad" but I wouldn't call him anywhere near good. First off, he's quite possibly the most awkward individual on earth. Then there's his quizzes every week. Sometimes they're easy but its completely unfair when he gives out quizzes that makes you think he wants to trick you. And 2 a week is actually a lot.

The professor is good but the name of the class is misleading. It's called African American Religion but only a small part of the class is about religion. Some of the videos shown were very violent. Don't take this class if you don't have a strong stomach.

Roger is awesome. While you do have to go to class, both because it is mandatory and helpful, the work is not too hard. Quizzes every week come from his lecture and the reading, but they are not too hard; I managed a B without the reading. Roger is a very nice, polite professor. He WILL give you a hard time about some things, but only for fun.
